COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer, the oldest of the three Rochefort Trappist beers, has the reddish colour of autumn leaves, a soft body and an earthy, herbal palate (a hint of Darjeeling tea), which develops into a deep fruitiness.

Geur van perzik tot abrikoos of rozijn, zoethout en noten; erg zachte complexe zoete (bananen) en licht kruidige smaak, gelijkaardige nasmaak. Perziken (en lichte bitterheid) komen terug in de nasmaak.

It pours a cloudy brown with white head. It has basement and earthly aromas. There is also a hint of cheese. It has a earthly character to the taste with herbal tendencies. It is dry on the palate.

Served @ 55f in a goblet. Pours a lively dark brown with a short lasting white head. Soft caramel and herbal aromas. Flavours bring caramel, dates, brown sugar, and earthy herbs. Despite the sweet flavours the finish is not cloying and almost off-dry. Probably helped by the effervescent carbonation.

Bottle. A catch-up rating. Haven’t had this one for some time. Light sugary fruity nose, small herbal notes, toffee, yeast. Medium reddish-brown color, and a ring of sediment at the bottom of the glass. Thin, gentle fruity initial, matured and delicate, yeasty, light cocoa. Very earthy and complex. Solid, sweet, and not as overpowering as the 8 and the 10. Somehow it all belnds and tastes just right. Love it.

Marrón oscura. Espuma media nada duradera. Muy muy carbónica. Aroma ligeramente frutal, y algo ahumado. Predominio del dulce, caramelo y frutas. Muy bebible. Pero final algo decepcionante, le falta contundencia.

Bottle from Tanakaya. Poured into a Duvel glass. Clear honey brown with a medium-sized soapy head with champagne like bubbles. Nose has muscat, fennel, plum and dried apricot. Active carbonation at first but becomes flatter the longer it sits. Great complex fruit flavor with a little bit of earthiness detectable as well. Taste is sweet with a little bit of pepper and spice. Gets sweeter the longer it sits as well, with candy sugar standing out on the finish.

Bottle to Westy glass Aroma of bread, a little yeast, vegetal, plum, and a hint of red pepper. Pours a cloudy amber with a fairly long lasting thin off white head. Taste is plum, yeast, earth, red pepper, and caramel. This is quite good.
