COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer, the oldest of the three Rochefort Trappist beers, has the reddish colour of autumn leaves, a soft body and an earthy, herbal palate (a hint of Darjeeling tea), which develops into a deep fruitiness.

Bottle. The pour was a murky medium chestnut brown with an average sized (1-2 finger) light tan head that quickly diminished to a thin cap, which in turn created some excellent sheets of lacing. The aroma was of a dark bread malt and a sweet Belgian yeast with notes of toffee, a plethora of dark fruit (cherries, plums raisons and figs) and a mild alcohol tinge. The taste was a mild malty sweet with a good toffee note early on, then becoming a bit yeasty with a big note of dark fruit and a pronounced alcohol finish. The flavor however was short lived fading quite quickly proceeding the swallow, with the fruity yeasty alcohol taste disappearing in what seemed like a matter if seconds. Mouthfeel was somewhere in the middle of light and medium in body with a slightly dry and a bit watery texture and a soft to medium carbonation. Overall this is a very well put together Belgian Ale, although this one is a tad lighter than the Trappistes 8 & 10 from this brewer. Now don’t get me wrong, I truly think they are all exceptional brews...

330 mL bottle from SoHo Organic Market, Elizabeth City, NC. Light brown pour with a foamy off-white head. Unusual aroma of Earth, chocolate, rye bread, and oak that quite honestly had me a bit hesitant at trying this beer. The taste is much better with a slightly sweet malt flavor which slowly fades into dark fruit. The carbonation helps to lift the flavors from the palate keeping any one particular component from being too heavy. Once I got past the aroma, this is a nice beer.

330ml bottle at Beer Station, Xiamen. Pours hazy yellow brown with a white head. Aroma is malty caramel. Medium sweet finish, certainly thinner than the other Rocheforts.

Bottle 0,33ltr: Hazy red/brown colored brew with an subtle bitter taste and hints of dried fruits and some caramel. At last rated the weakest of the Rochefort family.

Orange to brown colour with a cloud of head in the middle. Aroma is fruity, and there is syrup, caramel, dried fruits and nuts. Taste has lots of nuts, dried fruits and caramel. Medium body with really high carbonation. Still I haven’t got into Rochefort series, this is a fruity version but still I’m not enjoying this as much as everybody else.
