3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. The pour was a murky medium chestnut brown with an average sized (1-2 finger) light tan head that quickly diminished to a thin cap, which in turn created some excellent sheets of lacing.
The aroma was of a dark bread malt and a sweet Belgian yeast with notes of toffee, a plethora of dark fruit (cherries, plums raisons and figs) and a mild alcohol tinge.
The taste was a mild malty sweet with a good toffee note early on, then becoming a bit yeasty with a big note of dark fruit and a pronounced alcohol finish. The flavor however was short lived fading quite quickly proceeding the swallow, with the fruity yeasty alcohol taste disappearing in what seemed like a matter if seconds.
Mouthfeel was somewhere in the middle of light and medium in body with a slightly dry and a bit watery texture and a soft to medium carbonation.
Overall this is a very well put together Belgian Ale, although this one is a tad lighter than the Trappistes 8 & 10 from this brewer. Now donít get me wrong, I truly think they are all exceptional brews...

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a cloudy brown-amber; cloudier if sediment added, as I did. Lovely lasting tan head, towering at first, but settles to a nice creamy top coat.
T - complex and superbly balanced. Lacking the dark fruit flavor of a standard BSDA, this beer features a lighter fruitiness, lighter color and lighter aroma than usual for BSDA, but thatís not to be held against this beer which makes no such claims about style.
M - perfect carbonation. Light-medium body.
O - I had high expectations, based on my love of Rochefort 8. My high expectations were surpassed, although I believe I like the R8 better and I more eager than ever to try it, and the 6, again

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured from a 33cl bottle into a chalice. Brew smells spicy foremost, some fruit aromas as well. This beer looks impeccable. Iíve seen very few beers with such a vibrant yet natural and earthy hue. The lush off-white head stays at the top of the beer through the ENTIRE drink, and each time I tip my chalice, the foam smothers (not laces, smothers) the glass wall--amazing. Consistent with the aromas, I first taste the spices on the tip of my tongue. As the beer rushes through my mouth the creamy tingle dissipates a bit to reveal the beerís subtle sweetness and floral notes. The finish is perfectly smooth and just a hint boozy. The mouthfeel of this beer is so delectably full and rich without being overwhelmingly heavy. The carbonation works so interestingly with an initial refreshing bite that turns into a smooth foam coating the tongue even after the finishing gulp. This is a fantastic beer and should be enjoyed by anyone who calls himself or herself a beer lover.
"Never turn your back on your beer."

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours an amber/brown color with a large white head. Aroma of malt, caramel and yeast. Taste is of malt, yeast, fruits, hops and alcohol. Slightly above medium body and soft carbonation. Fruity finish. Dare I say it - it feels a bit thin. Definitely a good Belgian ale but nothing too special...certainly not compared to the two "older-brothers".

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Nice, but nowhere near as legendary as their 8 or 10. Autumnal orange brown with frothy white head. Aroma mostly malt with some spice - taste has malt, sugar, yeast, herbs and spices. Soft and mellow, fairly light on the palate with lively carbonation.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Hazy brown orange color with big head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is spicy-herbal, really tea-like, caramel, and a bit fresh. Taste is spicy yeasts, caramel, herbs. Rather dry finish, with nice bitterness. Not bad, and rather light, but it?s got a bit of that Belgian dirt feeling.
