The lower gravity cousin to Rochefort 10. Nicknamed "Spéciale" (’The Special’), this beer is the most recent production. The Rochefort 8 has a more tawny colour and a more pronounced aroma, with an even richer fruitiness (a slight undertone of fig?) and a little more spiced dryness, like that of a cake, which gives a balanced finish to the final notes.

33 cl bottle @ home. Pours hazy light brown with a lot of sediment and a huge off-white head that leaves some lacing. Aroma and flavour are dried fruit, malt, and yeast - with a dry finish.

Strong Belgian and bread aroma. Soft brown color with a good head. Weighted palate with a smooth feel. Strong bready malts like a dubbel with a caramel and yeasty finsh. Truly good.

This was my fav of the Rocheforts. Even at 9+ it was so so drinkable almost slmmable, but don’t get enough of it to waste on a chug. Dried fruit slight peach, earthy low hops, dry crisp finish. GREAT!

Yeasty scent with chocolate and honey notes. Opaque dark brown colour. Flavour of molasses, figs, and milk chocolate. Medium body with high carbonation. A really tasty beer.

Transfer from BA review on 6-28-13- Poured from bottle into a chalice glass Appearance- Pours as a very hazy mahogany color with a big and billowy off white head. The head has a moderate level of retention, fading over time to leave a decent level of lace on the sides of the glass. Smell- Initially when poured the beer has a more brown bread aroma mixed with a more mild dark fruit aroma of cherry and raisin. Mixed with these smells is a lighter yeasty smell. As the brew warms the darker fruits become more potent in aroma at the expense of the more bready smell. The cherry in particular begins to shine more with the yeasty aromas intensifying as well. This mixes with a bit of spice and a lighter boozy aroma to produce a rather classic and delicious Belgian strong dark like smell. Taste – The taste begins with a bready flavor mixed with a good dark fruit mix of cherry, raisin and plum. As the flavors advance the cherry grows stronger in flavor with more yeasty and spice flavors of coriander and clove coming to the tongue. Along this time a light boozy flavor starts working its way to the taste buds, remaining at a low constant level throughout the remainder of the taste. In the end a little bit of an almost grassy like bitter flavor comes to the tongue to leave a satisfying mix of warming alcohol and dark fruit flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel –The body of the beer is on the averages side in terms of creaminess and thickness with a rather high level of carbonation. The higher carbonation mixed with the medium body create a rather crisper feel even for a brew of 9.2 % nicely complimenting the dark fruit flavors of the beer. Overall-A quite tasty brew overall. Not quite to the level of the 10 but extremely tasty none the less.
