COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The lower gravity cousin to Rochefort 10. Nicknamed "Spťciale" (íThe Specialí), this beer is the most recent production. The Rochefort 8 has a more tawny colour and a more pronounced aroma, with an even richer fruitiness (a slight undertone of fig?) and a little more spiced dryness, like that of a cake, which gives a balanced finish to the final notes.

Bottle@De Tolly Joogipood. Pours brown with beige big head.Aroma is sweet, raisins, almonds, malty, caramel, wood, dark sweet fruits. Taste is medium (or more) sweet, malty, alcohol, yeast, raisins, watery-something really annoying me . Full body. Too sweet for me. But if you like sweet beers, then its for you.

A revelation. Best bottled Belgian beer Iíve had, including the Rochefort 10 A - beautiful, slightly cloudy dark amber. Long-lasting tan head. S - unique but pleasant, with clear note of caramel from malt M - effervescent; neither light nor heavy D - superb T - balanced, complex, somewhat sweet. Clean hoppy/malty finish.

Pours with a red hue and a frothy off-white head. Aroma is syrupy sweet with fruity resin and a noticeable hint of booze with a single note of what I can currently only think to describe as íbrowní. The carbonation gives a dry sense which is an interesting juxtaposition with the impression of sweetness provided by the fruity, fairly complex hop profile. Itís big and mouthfilling and it truly is a great beer but itís reasonably intense and varied nature makes it necessarily a one-off enjoyment.

Served in a trappist glass. Brown with a medium beige head. Aroma is chocolate, yeast, raisins, cherries, nuts, caramel, molasses and some wood and alcohol. Taste is yeast, vanilla, caramel, molasses, grapes, raspberry, prunes, chocolate, some light bitterness and alcohol. Finish is spicy and sweet. Full bodied. Tasty beer, good trappist!

0.33l bottle. Hazy and very dark orange/brown body, huge off-white head. The aroma is quite sweet and itís pretty complex. It reminds me of caramel, figs, orange peel, nuts and it also has a slight boozy character. Taste of caramel, toast, figs, toast, peach and some cocoa. The alcohol is warming but not harsh at all. Itís not as good as the 10 for me, but still an awesome beer.

Dark colour. Good carbonation. Very "fresh" feel in the mouth. A very good(and strong) beer indeed!

1st: gushing on opening :( Aroma: chocolate, red fruits (cherry etc), slightly alcohol. In fact it smells like pralines with cherry. Apearrance: wine ruby, clear, 2 fingers head disappears immediatly. Taste: sweet, red fruits, reminds me of red dry wine, notes (just minimal) of chocolate/caramel from malts. Palate: light body, thin, pretty fizzy.Slightly alcoholic on finish. Overall: 1st of all, got gushing on opening, so maybe thereís something wrong with this bottle. Beer reminds me light, dry red wine. Itís good but expected way more in taste and aroma from such a famous beer. And itís just good beer.

Somehow Iíve never tried this sacred nectar, and lord have I been missing out. Pour is burnt orange with a massive tan cap that roars like a waterfall as it forms. Fifteen minutes later it still sounds like a glass of Coke. Nose is heavy on ripe fruit: figs, prunes, raisins, cherries, with toffee/caramel, hazelnut, yeast, spice and booze. Taste-wise itís less sweet than I expected, with bitter/sour notes balancing it out. Finish is dry with lingering alcohol warmth. This stuff is stupid drinkable for a 9.2% abbey beer. Time to buy a bunch more and (try to) cellar them.
