COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The lower gravity cousin to Rochefort 10. Nicknamed "Spéciale" (’The Special’), this beer is the most recent production. The Rochefort 8 has a more tawny colour and a more pronounced aroma, with an even richer fruitiness (a slight undertone of fig?) and a little more spiced dryness, like that of a cake, which gives a balanced finish to the final notes.

9.2%ABV. Belgian Strong Ale. Poured out black brown. 28ºSRM. Nose has some nice roasty malty aromas. The chin chow or licorice nose is back again. There are some nice roasted nutty aromas of chestnuts and hazelnuts. Maybe honeyed or carmelized cashews. Creme brulee. Mouthfeel is soapy. There is pronounced carbonation and the palate is bitter with alcohol being a very prominent feature. There are pronounced flavors of dates, black plums, toffee and percolated coffee which you get more in the finish. Finish is medium and malty with an aftertaste of chocolate alcohol fumes. Goes on Favorites List!

Great stuff. Smell is of brown sugar a little more so than the 10 taste is smooth and sweet with a little bitterness. I'll go with this if I don't wanna get drunk to fast.

Bottle at home. Poured tawny brown with no head. Aromas of treacle, cognac, Madeira. Excellent taste, sugary sweet, yeasty, slight bitter. Great stuff

The best of all dark beers! Rochefort are the grandmasters of the trappist triples! Ingenious flavours and aroma, what more can you add?

Cloudy amber beer with a thick, foamy head. Slightly sour, rich fruit aroma. Quite a bit of sediment in there too. Tastes absolutely outstanding. Spicy, fruity flavour with hits of both malt and hops. It feels both quite rich but also has a refreshing, crisp quality as well. Aftertaste is surprisingly mellow, mostly malt and fruit and there’s caramel going through the whole thing as well. Really very tasty.

Bottle, BB 06.01.2020 - meaning, bottled almost a year ago. Opened with the longest pssssssst I’ve heard; pours coppery brown reddish amber with a big light beige head that retains nicely. Drops after a while to leave islets. Aroma: malts, caramel, slight herbs and cherries... Not too exciting to be honest. Tastes quite bland, sweetish with a bitterish twist... prunes and figs soaked in alcohol. And a hollow bitter-caramelly-alcoholic finish. Great alcoholic warmth - the ABV really shows. I’m not a fan, but think I should give it another try one day. Would be fun to try a fresh bottle and one close to its BB side by side.

Aromat bardzo intensywny, winny, śliwkowy, słodki, delikatnie drożdżowy. Barwa ciemna, rubinowa, mętne. Piana obfita, kremowa, opada powoli i zostaje do samego końca picia. Bardzo bogate w smaku, rodzynki, orzechy, śliwki. Lekko wyczuwalny alkohol, który przyjemnie grzeje. Goryczka średnia, wysycenie wysokie. Co tu dużo mówić, klasyk, świetne piwo.
