The lower gravity cousin to Rochefort 10. Nicknamed "Spéciale" (’The Special’), this beer is the most recent production. The Rochefort 8 has a more tawny colour and a more pronounced aroma, with an even richer fruitiness (a slight undertone of fig?) and a little more spiced dryness, like that of a cake, which gives a balanced finish to the final notes.

bottle at home. light brown cloudy color, big tan head. smells light yeasty, light milky smell, raisins, alcoholic. full body, very nice full mouthfeel, liqueurish / alcoholic, astringent, fruity, citric, bubbly dry astringent finish. actually quite little smell, but overall quite good.

This is a great beer. This one today extra yeast floating. It also had a lot of foam. It was still very tasty ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

33cl bottle from Westholme Stores, Goring. A deep copper coloured pour with a thick cream head that falls back to a tight layer; the aroma has vinous fruits, soft brown sugar, and Belgian yeast; it’s quite light in the mouth with some soft carbonation on the tongue, and some raisins and demerara sugar; a a touch of spicy dryness, before a gentle warmth emerges to give a pleasantly rounded finish. A well balanced, well made, ale.

One of my favorites! Much more balanced than Rochefort 10. Subtle yet strong aromas, beautiful dark color with a yellowish foam. The taste is just perfect with a strong but not overwhelming body.

UPDATED: FEB 24, 2015 Botella. Color marrón rojizo. Espuma beige muy claro de baja formación, jabonosa pero q aun persiste algo. Aromas a frutos negros, higos, malta, azúcar, levadura, cola, cereza, alcohol, amaretto...notas picantes y especiados. En boca es aceitosa pero ligera. Carbonatacion tiende a baja. En boca se aprecia los matices del aroma...dulce, algo alcoholica, y en final predomina la levadura "picante". Me parece q se aprecia el alcohol q tiene, no menos. Muy buena Birra...limpia...a ver q tal la 10.

The aroma is very subtle for a strong Belgian ale. Hints of fruityness, but of course caramel and roast. The appearance is neat: dark red, even brown, with a small yellow white foam. The taste is delicious: perfect mouth, with long, very long aftertaste. A strong palate, even with this 9.2 % alcohol version.

Rated from beer log from 2009 Belgian Trip.... 2000 vintage from Kulminator in Belgium... Aroma is phenomenal, dark brown caramel color, foamy tan head that dissipated immediately... Aroma is brown sugar, candi sugar, maple syrup... Flavor is breathtaking, more balanced than the 10, alcohol less prominent... Candi sugar gives it a fruity sweetness that is not cloying, dark fruits... Finish is more gentle, subtle than the 10, but maybe not as good... Very clean, outstanding beer

Bottle. Pours hazy dark orange with off-white head. Aroma is very fruity, lots of grape, prunes, sweet-fruit forward malt. Taste is medium bodied, high carbonation, lightly sweet, malt forward. Overall, very nice.
