The lower gravity cousin to Rochefort 10. Nicknamed "Spéciale" (’The Special’), this beer is the most recent production. The Rochefort 8 has a more tawny colour and a more pronounced aroma, with an even richer fruitiness (a slight undertone of fig?) and a little more spiced dryness, like that of a cake, which gives a balanced finish to the final notes.

Pours a nice dark brown colors with a thin head that seems to linger. Aroma is of booze, dark fruits, it is very fruity, sweetness, bready, the aroma for me on this one is not as defined as the 6. Tastes of molasses, dark stone fruit, fig, thick cereal malts, caramel. It’s a little hot although it is very well rounded. My ability to pick out the notes were a bit better on the 6 but this one is just as good if not better. It is a very layered beer that changes as you drink it.

Pours cloudy caramel or dark reddish brown with a massive white head. Aromas are mostly yeasty esters, but there’s also a bit of dark fruit, caramel, and spice. Upfront flavors are candied fruit and caramel--which arrive soft on the tongue--then cocoa, roasty toasty bready notes, and dark fruits that finish with a lively, peppery mouthfeel. Unbelievably complex. Overall, this is a beautiful brew.

Licht brown with a thick head. Aroma of rasins and caramel. Tastes like chocolate, rasins, pears, caramel and sugar. To sweet for me, but works great with some meat or cheese!

Hazy dark brown colour, large head. Aroma is very complex and pleasant: malt, dark chocolate and light fruit. Lively carbonation. Taste is sweet, with notes of caramel, coffee and some spicy. Extremely well balanced. Long and delicious finish. A classic one.

Pours a cloudy hazy dark brown with a full head, good retention, aroma was fruitier than Rochefort 10 and taste was sweeter than 10, malty nutty toffee, had a lively carbonation defiantly full bodied, excellent drinking, smooth with a nice mild bitter aftertaste, warms the heart.

33cl bottle, poured into a trappist chalice. Dark red brown, almost chocolate in colour when poured. Good off-white head, dissipates quickly. Slightly sweet, fruity plum and dark chocolate taste. Light carbonation. Good light/medium aroma. Short aftertaste on the palate. Easier to drink than I expected for 9.2% ABV.
