COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The lower gravity cousin to Rochefort 10. Nicknamed "Spéciale" (’The Special’), this beer is the most recent production. The Rochefort 8 has a more tawny colour and a more pronounced aroma, with an even richer fruitiness (a slight undertone of fig?) and a little more spiced dryness, like that of a cake, which gives a balanced finish to the final notes.

Pours a ruby/copper colour with a large foamy natural white head. Aromas of plum, fig, Belgian yeast, and some light cherry are present. It's medium body and fizzy carbonation do give it somewhat of a soda feel, but not in a bad way. Fairly dry in the tongue, some warming alcohol, notes of fruit, bitter cherry. This is a very modest beer, no intense flavours jumping out, everything is very subdued.

good, but this is a big dropoff from the Rochefort 10. aroma had something a bit different, sort of a cola feel to it. raisins, figs and such are touted in the description. i can see that. it’s a good beer, but considering it was the same price as a Rochefort 10, I’ll just go for the 10 next time.

330 ml bottle. Pours dark brown with laying foamy head. Aroma is Belgian yeast, raisin, alcohol, sweet. Taste has hints of fruit, alcohol, raisin, not sweet. Alcohol warmth on the finish. Not sure it?s 100...but very good. I prefer this over the 10.

Bottle pour. Pours a dark, muddy color with a head that lasts forever. Semi sweet , but overall mild aroma with light fruit. Dusty flavor up front, very light fruit notes hidden in there. Minimum sweetness. Some light fruit, but overall there isn’t much going on here. Nothing offensive about it, but it wasn’t anything spectacular. Definitely liked it though. Good.

Bottle. Dark color with ruby hints and off-white head with substantial lacing. Fruit aroma with fig notes. Plum with some fig upfront with some cherry notes. Sweet finish with cherry notes. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tulip. Very dark hazy brown with orange around the edge of the glass. Thick marshmallow head that dissipates reasonably quickly. Smell is fresh hops, yeast, dried spice. Rich fruit, raisin, plums, figs, caramel, cracker/bread, honey, berry, hops. Crisp flavour that keeps developing in your mouth. Good body but overwhelmingly fizzy.

Cloudy brown pour, creamy off white head. Nose is leather and cherries. Bittersweet. Middle wraps your tongue in soft dark fruit, coco nibs and metal. Finish returns to the soft leather and drying yeasts. Wow!

Color is a hazy brown with high carbonation apparent. Smell is malty. Taste is like a christmas cake with a part containing purely sweet icing as well as dried fruits. Quite a bit of different burnt sugars Feel is gentle, old. Yeasty phenolics are pleasant and mild. Aroma is boring but a good beer.
