COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The lower gravity cousin to Rochefort 10. Nicknamed "Spéciale" (’The Special’), this beer is the most recent production. The Rochefort 8 has a more tawny colour and a more pronounced aroma, with an even richer fruitiness (a slight undertone of fig?) and a little more spiced dryness, like that of a cake, which gives a balanced finish to the final notes.

Bottle at home that has been standing for a year. Pour absolute dark with a dirty head. Smells of spices, roasted malt and yeast. Full body, a little bit of alcohol taste. Tastes of dried fruit and roasted malt. Not my favorite but well balanced.

Sprankelend krachtig bier qua mondgevoel. Complexe smaak van choco, kruidig, caramel dat wat zachter aandoet dan de 10. Lichte bitter aanwezig in de lichte soepele warme droge afdronk. Pracht bier met een geweldig lang palet in de nasmaak.

very rich aroma: port, apples, toffee, plum, citrus, brandy and spices... the taste of caramel, brandy, chocolate with notes of citrus and port... aftertaste is sweet and dry and, a little bit, warming... wonderful trappist...

Bottle. Ruby red with a cream head that sticks heavily to the glass. Aromas of cherry, rum, candy sugar, Christmas cake and caramel. Heavy malt throughout, intertwined with cherry, bubblegum, candy sugar, cola, rum, biscuit and toffee. Beautifully smooth mouthfeel with perfect carbonation. Magnificent beer.

Pours a medium caramel with somewhat of a rosy hue. Great clarity and a large offwhite head with good retention. Aroma is Belgian yeast, cake and alcohol. Taste is sweet, dark fruit, banana and alcohol. More warming alcohol with yeast and malt. Carbonation works for this style, but could be a little higher. Overall, a very good Belgian ale.

This is another excellent beer tasted at a beer festival last weekend. Although I only had an ounce, or so, it made a big impression on me and my friends. Belgian Ales are not always my beer choice, but where this one is available, I will try a full bottle.

The taste is excellent. It is sweat and yeasty, has a compact flavor. Dark fruity character, with prunes and raisins and licorice. Also there are (the usual suspects) caramel ande brown suger - I almost forgot ;). Carbonation is just right for this beer - not to much, but prominent. Hides the alcohol very well, without an excessive sugarly taste. You drink this beer easy, and because of the compact flavor you might think this it is not very complex. But it is in the way the flavors are bound together that makes this beer so good. As if all the complexity comes together in a point of beer singularity (this is the beer talking) controlled by a yet to be discovered force of the universe. So...

Efímera en el paladar, pobre cuerpo de maltas sabor fresco pero carece de carácter, falta la presciencia de levaduras belgas

Deep golden, mahogany color, big and frothy off-white head. Dried fruit nose, roasted malt, candi sugar, Belgian yeast, hints of nuts and cherry. Sweet taste, fruity, yeasty, hint of alcohol, long lasting. Full to medium body, warming alcohol, soft carbonation.

2 finger head fades typical brown purple dark belgium ale look. smells of grape, plum and cake(iceing & batter) taste is grape, plum, wine like. Later some beer like taste in the troat with a yeasty taste and some warmth. Like alot of the other Belgium beers but a little different. Cheer’s!!!!!! :)
