COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The lower gravity cousin to Rochefort 10. Nicknamed "Spéciale" (’The Special’), this beer is the most recent production. The Rochefort 8 has a more tawny colour and a more pronounced aroma, with an even richer fruitiness (a slight undertone of fig?) and a little more spiced dryness, like that of a cake, which gives a balanced finish to the final notes.

UPDATED: DEC 16, 2014 330ml bottle served in its own chalice. A: Pours a dark brown color with a medium dense and creamy beige head. Particles floating around. Medium to low retention and some nice lacings left in the glass S: A little bit less complex than the 10 but still quite fruity and bready. Strong notes of raisins and plums. Candy sugar. Caramel malts and earthy Belgian yeasts T: Sweet and fruity upfront. Notes of chocolate biscuits, candy sugar, malts, Belgian yeasts, brown bread, candy sugar. Nice hops profile, not too bitter. A bit boozy M: Full creamy and molasses body. Reasonable carbonation. Belgian-style bittersweet aftertaste O: Absolutely drinkable. Simply delicious. A winner, ever! [ BA Review @ 11/18/2009 ]

a sweet, spicy taste and aroma, and you have to love the way those tiny bubbles just sit on your tongue. Unfortunately it disappeard way too fast and only left me wanting more (too cost prohibitive), we must pay homage to those trappist for continuing to produce such fine quality beer!

Double trappist beer, and thus automatically qualified for the "classic" stamp. Powerful and sweet, beautifully red brown with clear hints of strawberries, soy sauce and hints of beechwood, cinnamon and caramel. A joy for both the nose, the mouth roof and the tongue. Nice to be in Belgium!

A fine beer from the good brothers in Rochefort. Just a little too much caramel makes this a slightly too sweet beer for my taste, and the extremely thin head doesn’t do its appearance much good, but overall this is a great beer, with a particularly fine nose. A great beer for late afternoons in fall. Classic label with a pretty jumble of lettering styles, quite Belgian, that.

Pours a reddish brown colour. Head is made of rather large bubbles. Doesn’t stick around very long. 9,2% goes unnoticed in the aftertaste. Wouldn’t mind drinking copious amounts of this beer.

0,33 l bottle (way too expensive at the Bierbörse in Schwelm). Dark ruby colour, clear liquid. Very creamy, off-white stable and thick head. Intense aroma of cherry, plum, dried fruits, raisins, rock sugar and caramel. Taste is a mixture of sweet and bitter. Medium body, creamy texture, lively carbonation. Creamy mouthfeel. Crisp bitter finish (in a pleasant way). After having opened the bottle, I was just impressed how good a beer can smell. Drinking it was even better. Love it, just a gorgeous beer!

Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours dirty orange brown with a creamy khaki head. Aroma of toast, bready yeast, leather, cherries and toffee. Flavours are very bready, dark fruits, alcohol warmth and basementy/leathery note. Medium body, lingering bready booziness. Prefer the 10 by a long way.

33cl bottle. Effervescent carbonation through a murky burnt orange forms a thin layer of off-white foam. Flavors are burnt caramel, raisins, figs, hazelnuts, bread, spices and alcohol with herbal notes. Medium to full body, lively carbonation, smooth texture.

Bottle at home, 5th October 14. Dark and rich, full fruity aroma, fruit cake. The taste is smooth and deep, dark booze soaked fruit. Liked this one
