The lower gravity cousin to Rochefort 10. Nicknamed "Spéciale" (’The Special’), this beer is the most recent production. The Rochefort 8 has a more tawny colour and a more pronounced aroma, with an even richer fruitiness (a slight undertone of fig?) and a little more spiced dryness, like that of a cake, which gives a balanced finish to the final notes.

Rochefort 8 combines a subtle fruit and honey aroma with velvety chocolate raisin and pie crust flavors. A very warming alcohol finishes a dry light bodied Belgian ale. You should have six bottles at all times in case of a zombie uprising.

Poured into a tulip glass. The copper body produces a large head with a moderate thickness that dissipates to about an inch high after a few minutes. The beer is very carbonated and yet gentle on the tongue with a short finish. A fruity aroma is coupled with a sour/semisweet flavour.

Deep, overwhelming taste of bread, amazing smell and a sweet, lovely aftertaste. This is an amazing example of trappist belgian beer.

33cl bottle enjoyed @ home. Pours dark reddish brown with an off-white head. Aroma is raisins, prunes, caramel, nutty, yeast and belgian candi sugar. Flavour is medium sweet. Medium bodied, a little lively carbonation. Finish is dark dried fruits and a hint of alcohol. I like the big brother much better.

Pours dark brown with a beautiful, thick, lasting off-white head. Fair amount of sediment in the glass. Aroma of chocolate, yeast, a tad of alcohol, loads of malts and dried fruits, raisins, plums, spices as well... Complex indeed, and almost amazing. Didn’t like the alcoholic smell though. Despite being not that strong, it kind of bugs me a bit. Tastewise, I’ve got nothing to complain. Beautiful soft, almost creamy-like taste of nuts, chocolate, dark fruits, great yeasty notes, spices, some sweet-breaded notes, cloves, liquorice. Nice smooth bitterness towards the end, soft sweet and spicy in the aftertaste. Truly beautiful. Beautiful creamy texture, full bodied... Smoother than its stronger brother and therefore, the 8 is just one up on the 10. True silk in the glass. Its smoothness accompanied with it’s great complexity and wonderful balance, makes this brew a masterpiece of craftsmanship. Perfection at its finest.

10/16/2006 12:51:26 PM Bottle at home. Another fantastic Belgian ale. Tall, creamy head. Fruity flavor. Very similar to the 10, bit less alcohol. Tastes spicy and becomes increasingly strong.

Dark brown, hazy, beer with a three finger high, beige head.

Nose: Brown sugar, caramel, dried fruit, Belgian yeast and banana. Not that strong smell.
Taste: Ohh... This is pure love! Caramel malt, brown sugar, bread, dried fruit, nuts, honey, malty and grainy notes, chocolate, plum and raisin.
Body: Medium to full body. High carbonation. Thick texture. A little bitternes that takes over by the sweetness.

This is so great! This is absolute a favorite! So easy drinking still ABV on 9.2% !

Tawny colored pour. Off white head. Some lacing. Nice malty aroma with hints of dark fruit and sugar. Taste is a nice malt front with a crisp bitterness in the back. Some spicy notes.
