COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The lower gravity cousin to Rochefort 10. Nicknamed "Spéciale" (’The Special’), this beer is the most recent production. The Rochefort 8 has a more tawny colour and a more pronounced aroma, with an even richer fruitiness (a slight undertone of fig?) and a little more spiced dryness, like that of a cake, which gives a balanced finish to the final notes.

Poured a dark reddish brown with a frothy off-white head. Aroma of sweet malt a berry fruits. Lively medium body, flavour of bitter sweet malt, vinous with dark fruit, dry lingering aftertaste.

I can’t believe I’ve not had this before, but I’ve now completed the Rochefort set. Deep dark brown, with a small beige head and decorative lacing. Has a similar malt loaf aroma to the 10, just not as pronounced. Medium bodied with a nice bit of tongue tingling carbonation. Taste is malty and a bit boozy, and it’s the finish that turns it from a good to great beer. That’s when you get the dough, plum, dried fruit and spices like a delicious dessert. Very tasty, but I’d still recommend the 10 which takes it to a higher level again.

A dark muddy brown body, crowned by a thick slightly off-white head (oh those Belgian yeasts), that settles down nicely into little more than a film riding on top of the beer. Aromas are molasses, raisins, fig newtons, and a bit of brown sugar tickling the background. I let this one warm for a bit from the fridge before opening, to maximize the tastes, which echo the aromas. There is a fairly thick mouthfeel, with a slight viscosity as it glides over the tongue. It’s highly complex, and keeps adding to its repertoire with each sip. Definitely some alcohol presence entering the mix. Now getting some sweet nuttiness, and prune juice. I would compare this to the best bread puddings I have had, contained in a glass. A simply wonderful World Class beer.

Very nice pour with creamy, tan foam. Nose of malt and roasted fruit. At first, the taste was a bit underwhelming, more alcohol, but as the beer breathed, a very well-rounded bunch of flavors (malt, herb, fruit). Quite delicious overall. A top-notch beer.

Very good beer. Only rated this low due to aroma, of which I detected little, hence the lower score. Taste, to me, is quite malty but not a heavy bread taste. Nice thick head. Really, really solid beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

0,33 bottle purchased at the Beer Store of Skopje (RIP) and consumed in Kosovo. The bottle is about 2 years aged. Pours a dark amber-brown color, medium beige foamy head which slowly fades away. Nose: perfect toffee candy, caramel, dry figs and chestnut honey. Just amazing and balanced combination of these notes. Mouth: highly carbonated, light and grassy final. The body is not that heavy, the alcohol stays quite hidden although the beer provides the right warmness for which it was meant. The dry fruit is gently softened buy that bitter end in a body which stays warm enough.

Butelka, warka do 23.09.2019. Zapach niezwykle intensywny i zlozony. Przede wszytkim owoce. Duzo, roznorodnych owocow. Figi, winogrona (tez rodzynki), wisnie, banany, jablka, sliwki... sporo przypraw delikatnych, troche karmelu czy krowek, slad gumy balonowej, niemalo drozdzy, conieco slodow, zboza, chleba.

Bottle@De Tolly Joogipood. Pours brown with beige big head.Aroma is sweet, raisins, almonds, malty, caramel, wood, dark sweet fruits. Taste is medium (or more) sweet, malty, alcohol, yeast, raisins, watery-something really annoying me . Full body. Too sweet for me. But if you like sweet beers, then its for you.

A revelation. Best bottled Belgian beer I’ve had, including the Rochefort 10 A - beautiful, slightly cloudy dark amber. Long-lasting tan head. S - unique but pleasant, with clear note of caramel from malt M - effervescent; neither light nor heavy D - superb T - balanced, complex, somewhat sweet. Clean hoppy/malty finish.

Pours with a red hue and a frothy off-white head. Aroma is syrupy sweet with fruity resin and a noticeable hint of booze with a single note of what I can currently only think to describe as ’brown’. The carbonation gives a dry sense which is an interesting juxtaposition with the impression of sweetness provided by the fruity, fairly complex hop profile. It’s big and mouthfilling and it truly is a great beer but it’s reasonably intense and varied nature makes it necessarily a one-off enjoyment.
