The lower gravity cousin to Rochefort 10. Nicknamed "Spéciale" (’The Special’), this beer is the most recent production. The Rochefort 8 has a more tawny colour and a more pronounced aroma, with an even richer fruitiness (a slight undertone of fig?) and a little more spiced dryness, like that of a cake, which gives a balanced finish to the final notes.

poured a dark golden color. modest amount of head that quickly faded. caramel and the spicy Belgian yeast character comes across in the aromas of caramel. tastes of raisin, toffee, and the belgian yeast is definitely present in the flavor. very nice.

Bought in le forum, Arlon Nice deep brown colo with a crisp carbonation. Fruity notes are the dominant aromas with a slight alcohol and yeasty tang. The taste is characterised by malty yeasty fruity altogether wonderful combination. Rochefort, What else ?

Tulip. Very dark hazy brown with orange around the edge of the glass. Thick marshmallowy head that dissipates reasonably quickly. Smell is fresh hops, yeast, dried spice. Rich fruit, raisin, plums, figs, caramel, cracker/bread, honey, berry, hops. Crisp flavor that keeps developing in your mouth. Good body but overwhelmingly fizzy.

Flasche (33 cl) von Getränkefeinkost Berlin. - Tiefes Kastanienbraun, sehr trüb, reichlich Schaum. - Nase unerwartet fruchtig (Birne, weißer Traubensaft), leicht weinige Note, elegant dunkelmalzig.

Bottle at Den Engel, Leek. Pours brown with a fast diminishing head. Well carbonated for that Rochefort zing, fragrant plums, a little spice. Very nice but not a spot on Rochefort 10.

33cl bottle from local beer store. Hazy brown colour with small beige head. Brown sugar, chocolate and dark fruits. Rich carbonation (maybe a bit too much). A nice trappist beer overall.

Hazy brown pour, small tan head. Aroma not very strong, malts, brown sugar, yeast. Bitter taste, some fruity notes towards the end. Nice, soft and tingly mouthfeel. Rich carbonation but pleasantly small bubbles. Decent trappist on the lighter side of the spectrum.
