2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
First of all, let me say I think the heat might have got to this in storage (brought in Japan) as it doesn’t taste quite as I remember it from Belgium, but still good. Very effervescent with only a little on the nose, head soon dissipating. A distinct almond taste that I hadn’t noticed before joining the alcohol. I’ll re-review before long, but have to say, this is a little disappointing, and I can’t get excited about it.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours an effervescent cherry wood color with full finger of loose beige head that diminishes to a thin milky substance that clings to the surface. Musty yeast aroma with notes of cloves, sourdough, and dark fruits. Excellent taste of spiced rum, caramel maltiness, cherries, and marzipan. Creamy texture with dry finish. Nicely balanced.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Copenhagen 30/7 2015. 33 cl bottle from Gunnar Madsens Vingandel. Aggressively foaming upon opening. Pours hazy brown with small white head. Disappears fairly fast. Sweet fruity aroma with some yeast and fermentation in the background. Some tart notes for balance. Fizzy carbonation. Taste is well balanced between sweet fruity fermentation and a little sourness. A fine Belgian Dark Ale. Maybe a bit aggressively carbonated.

Really good beer, with nice color and dense froth (as every trappist beer). However, I’d rather drink an Orval or Westmalle because this one is too ’strong’

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Murky brown colour with frothy head that disappears quickly. Rich, dark fruits in flavour, intensive aroma. Slight alcohol warm in the end. Awesome beer

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Meiner Meinung nach sogar etwas besser als das Rochefort 10. Runder, weniger Alkoholgeschmack, dadurch mehr Aroma welches durchkommt.

4.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
one of the best beers in the world. 9,2 alcohol is not less, but you can easily drink this flavour.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours similar in color and sediment to it´s big brother.
Aroma is alot more subdued on this one compared to the 10, less of everything is what hits me! Still rich dark fruits, plums, figs.
Taste follows the same road of shadowing it´s big brother in awe i can imagine as it lacks something in all the categories compared to the 10, the difference in price and abv is just not justifiable to me to choose this over the 10 at any time if you can have any of them! If the 10 is not available the 8 suddenly becomes a top class belgian dark strong beer!
Perfect example of living in the shadow of something better!

Pours big head, fades very quickly and eventually disappears. Murky dark brown. Plum, raisin, fig, musk, cola aroma. All matching flavours. High carbonation.
