The lower gravity cousin to Rochefort 10. Nicknamed "Spéciale" (’The Special’), this beer is the most recent production. The Rochefort 8 has a more tawny colour and a more pronounced aroma, with an even richer fruitiness (a slight undertone of fig?) and a little more spiced dryness, like that of a cake, which gives a balanced finish to the final notes.

Rated based on notes taken 25 June 2012 -- This is a solid trappist brew. I really need to buy some to age and see how well they do.

Plums. Figs. Drank warm. Incredibly dry. Much more drinkable than a rochefort 10. Quite complex. Really enjoyable....makes me think I’m not sure why people drink crappy beer

33 cl. flaske. 9,2 %. Mørk øl let sødlig smag. Passer meget bedre til min smag end 10’ren. Velkomponeret.

Pours a cloudy plum brown color with a huge bubbly white head. Lots of carbonation. Nose is so complex. At first you kind of get a sweet candy. After that you get Dark Fruits, Plum, Spices, Fruits that I can’t quite put my finger on. I also get hints of chocolate some toffee. Sweet taste at first that is pretty well balanced with some hops and some alcool to finish. Medium to full body with lively carbonation and a long finish. Probably the best beer I ever tasted.

How can a beer so good? Although there are those who believe that the number 10 as there is nothing, I think that, having his name a few, beer is a brutal, balanced, not so demanding as the number 10 or so blunt. A wonder of which I never tire.

Cloudy amber color with creamy off-white head. Aroma is caramel, fruit. Taste is Strong sweet, with tiny alcohol finish. A good one.

A dark brown beer with a good head. The aroma has fruity and chocolate notes. And the flavor is very complex with notes of fruit and chocolate

DATE TASTED: June 21, 2015... GLASSWARE: Affligem chalice... OCCASION: Father’ Day celebration, part three--third good beer! APPEARANCE: dense, dark plum-brown body that sports a white, half-finger head; sediment floats in the head;... AROMA: earthy plum early, with leafy, wet cigar hints as well; cherry, port, and berry--complex and promising... PALATE: dry, lively, yet monkish in its assertion; creamy and smooth; warming and tart, with a lengthy yet controlled finish that welcomes the next sip; surely, as drinkable a 9.1 ABV as could be... TASTE: prune, cherry, cranberry, subdued citrus fruit, dry malts--this beer is "special" indeed; pepper, anise and other spices... OVERALL: a fruity, masterful experience; flavorful, full and filling...
