The lower gravity cousin to Rochefort 10. Nicknamed "Spéciale" (’The Special’), this beer is the most recent production. The Rochefort 8 has a more tawny colour and a more pronounced aroma, with an even richer fruitiness (a slight undertone of fig?) and a little more spiced dryness, like that of a cake, which gives a balanced finish to the final notes.

UPDATED: FEB 15, 2015 330ml bottle poured into tulip. Appearance is hazy iced tea brown with red highlights. One finger head quickly fades to a ring. Bit of a bubble show with sediment resting on the bottom. Aroma is raisin, vanilla, fig, alcohol, light molasses, and grains. Taste is sweet malt and yeast with mild clove phenol, pumpernickel bread, brown sugar, and fig. Alcohol is prominent with fruit and spice notes. Medium-plus body, creamy texture, fizzy carbonation, spicy and sweet finish.

Bottle poured a hazy brown-amber colpur beer. Nut-like flavour. Slightly bitter. I liked the 10 better but still pretty good beer.

Hazy tan to brown, tall rocky head vanishing to a thick film on beer. Aroma of rich malts, yeasty spiciness, some strong alcohol like grappa. The rest is hard to describe and beautiful. Even a note of fresh cucumber. Medium to full body. Oily to creamy. The taste is similarly complex. Dark fruit, grappa, sherry, I don’t even know what. A great experience drinking this

Bottle pour. Darker brown amber pour, thin rocky tan head. Decent lacing. Dark malt aroma, toffee, brown sugar, bread, dark fruit, a little bit of yeasty ester. A little bit of warming alcohol in the body. Medium body overall, carbonation is on the creamier side.

11.2 oz. bottle. Pours a dark amber-brown with an off-white head that is initially a little fizzy and then eventually settles into more of a thin creamy film. Moderate lacing that slides down the glass back into the beer. Aroma of dark fruits, malt, caramel, and some alcohol. Flavors of dark fruit, spice, caramel, wine, nuts, and light Belgian yeast. Warm, slightly bitter finish. Strong carbonation. Some creaminess in the mouthfeel. Had this for the first time in Brussels, Sept. 2015, and I was hooked! Absolutely fantastic.
