4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
1.5 year old bottle. Dark copper with light beige head that disappears very fast and leaves a nice little island. Incridibly complex: there’s red fruits, dried fruits, rum, spices, milk chocolate, icecream, it just keeps on going. Taste is a great balance: medium sweet, sour touch and bitter cocoa and grassy notes in the aftertaste. Medium mouth, slightly prickly carbonation. My favorite beer so far. Every bottle is slightly different, I prefer the ones that have a bit more chocolate, but this is very, very close to perfection.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
33cl bottle @ home. Pours hazy reddish-brown, massive off-white head. Smells sweet-sour. Aroma caramel, chocolate, fruit, herbs, all moderated. Taste light sweetness, medium bitterness, salty notes. Fizzy carbon, alcohol is quite well hidden, light bitter finish. Easy to drink, lighter taste than I expected, there for it’s not that unique experience, but still an amazing beer.

In bottiglia. Ottima

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Rochefort 8 has a thin, cream-colored, fizzy, root beer-like head, and an initially clear (it seriously clouds up when one swishes and pours in the heavily caked bottom contents), extremely bubbly appearance, with film of lacing left behind. The aroma is of sweetness, fig, prune, bread crust, and malt. Taste is similar with a background of grain husky and brandy wine. Mouthfeel is medium and quite prickly, and Rochefort 8 finishes mostly dry, relatively easy drinking, and rich. This is one of the world’s classic beers, and I strongly advise trying it. RJT

Bottle. Cola colored with a thick fluffy off white head. Aroma is bready and nutty with dark fruit notes. Taste mostly follows suit while adding a big alcohol punch and some subtle vanilla notes. Medium fizzy palate and slightly oily and chewy. Very good.
