COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The lower gravity cousin to Rochefort 10. Nicknamed "Spéciale" (’The Special’), this beer is the most recent production. The Rochefort 8 has a more tawny colour and a more pronounced aroma, with an even richer fruitiness (a slight undertone of fig?) and a little more spiced dryness, like that of a cake, which gives a balanced finish to the final notes.

I’ve just had a bottle of the Rochefort 6, so I’m expecting great things. Poured hazy russet brown with a fluffy off-white head. But the expectation of a trappist ale makes my appreciation of the appearance of this beer different to how I’d usually rate other styles. The aroma is rich and complex. Dried fruits, chocolate, spices, Christmas cake, I have never given a ten for aroma before. Full, rich and complex. Raisins, cinnamon, allspice and loveliness. Toasty and nutty, sweet and unctuous. Wow. Just wow. I won’t be forgetting this one for a while.

The same dark honey colour as number 6, but slightly darker with smaller beige top and stronger carbonation. Complex liquid with potent aroma and taste. Intense strong ale. Highest world class.

Hazy brown with light beige head. Aroma is caramel, raisins, yeast, dried fruits. Taste is caramel, yeast, sweet brown sugar, some coffee. Very classical and good Belgian.

Served in a La Trappe Trappist glass from a bottle. Pours chestnut brown colour with a creamy fast diminishing head. Aroma is yet again a typical Trappist beer aroma - caramel, malt, bread, yeast. Taste is bready and slightly salty but nicely balanced. Medium body with lively carbonation (almost on a prickly side). Nice enough to have more.

Bootle 0,33. Pours dark amber with medium diminishing off-white head. Aroma of yeast, caramel, sweet fruits, a hint of coffee and raisins. Sweet taste that follows the aroma, however more of dark fruits and a hint of vanilla. Creamy, somewhat sticky texture with full body. Excellent, looking forward to the 10.

Certainly a fine fine beer, it’s drier (in the port sense, not the overhopped awful sense) but it has a perfect rich raisin-y palate and finishes in a balanced way. Slightly hoppy

Hazy, brown colour. Thin white head. Hints of vanilla, toffee, hints of coffee, dark fruits in the aroma. Toffee at first. Vanilla. Caramel. Nice spiceness in the middle. Dark fruits. Hints of raisins. Toffee in the end. Hints of vanilla, caramel and hints of fruits in the aftertaste. Quite nice mouthfeel. Sweetnes is in balance. Makes bit warm inside, but covers alchohol very well. Rather medium bodied, medium carbonated, very good beer.

Malty aroma of caramel, bread, toast, raisin, quite complex. A bit darker than the 6, but still some red. Taste is sweet, dark fruit, some dark chocolate even, with a rather thick texture. Great Trappist beer.

Bière très foncé avec une belle mousse blanche qui disparaît très rapidement. Au nez elle est très agréable. Au goût elle est très surprenante. Seul défaut, un arrière goût un peu sec.
