COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The lower gravity cousin to Rochefort 10. Nicknamed "Spéciale" (’The Special’), this beer is the most recent production. The Rochefort 8 has a more tawny colour and a more pronounced aroma, with an even richer fruitiness (a slight undertone of fig?) and a little more spiced dryness, like that of a cake, which gives a balanced finish to the final notes.

Pours with a beautiful full-inch-up tan foam that fades into a crater filled surface of bumby weird whipped cream with eiry leftover laces coating the sides. The glowing amber red lake sits murky, yet crystal clear around the edges. The aroma hits with a grainy goodness like fresh cooked homemade bread straight out of the oven with a fresh steaming cup of coffee on the side, but in way that makes you want to stick your face straight into it. The dance that executes across the tounge is amazing. This is no mere beer; this is a masterpiece. A finely crafted delicate dance of malt, yeast, and hops that emphasizes none before the other, but combines them in a refined balance of spice and caramel mellowness. Aye, Mother's milk, nectar of the Gods, may ye find this nearby and often.

Bottle: Clear, light caramel brown, thick head and good lace. Dried fruit, fig or dates, malt, caramel, ripe not roasted. Dry, not sour but almost acid and low bitterness. Almost phenolic. Super attenuated. Loads of weight and length. Chocolate. Almost like red wine pressings.

Really nice tasting beer. Not quite as strong as the 10 but really refined.

Una verdadera Belgian Stron Ale. Aromas a caramelo, pan, chocolate, nueces tostadas. En boca sabores a pan, caramelo, toffe, café, chocolate. Deja un buen retrogusto. El alcohol no se nota en boca ni en garganta.

I love this sophisticated Belgian. Lightly fruited aroma, sweet initial taste, and then goes fruity before a dry finish with a touch of alcohol Smoother and less yeasty than many Belgians, it goes down alarmingly easy for a 9.2% beer

Bottle. Hazy dark brown pour with white head. Aroma is very fresh and complex. Taste is very balanced with malty notes, a hint of yeast and underlying warmth from the alcohol. It is still fresh though. Impressive

Poured into a chilled mug. A: Pours cloudy brown with a monstrous head that took forever to dissipate. Lacing is thick and clings to the side of the mug. S: Smells... Earthy, musty... Everything else is quite muted. I get hints on banana. T: WOW. the nose was misleading. This a sweet, complex brew - fruity, earthy, bready, sugary sweet, with blueberries and the right amount of booziness and funk at the back end. One of my new favorites, definitely. M: Buttery, fizzy, light, moderate carbonation. O: Despite the somewhat lackluster smell, this one came through in the taste department. Incredible flavor that begs you to have more!

Cloudy brown color, big off white head that quickly disappeared. Full body, soft carbonation. Aroma of malt, yeast, spices, herbal hops, citrus, lots of fruits, caramel. Medium sweet, light bitter taste. Alcohol is very well hidden. Finish is sweet at first, and than bitter. Robust and complex. Well, this is just wonderful stuff.

True trappist, deep, figgy muddy flavors. Kind of fizzy this one. Finish is dry and nice. Bottle from De Zwart in Wilnis
