The lower gravity cousin to Rochefort 10. Nicknamed "Spťciale" (íThe Specialí), this beer is the most recent production. The Rochefort 8 has a more tawny colour and a more pronounced aroma, with an even richer fruitiness (a slight undertone of fig?) and a little more spiced dryness, like that of a cake, which gives a balanced finish to the final notes.

Bevuta in versione natalizia ma nn cambia di una virgola! Al naso un po' mielosa e caramellata con punte di caffè al gusto frutti rossi e di un equilibrio perfetto. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Hazy brown with creamy off white head. Aroma is malt, yeast and caramel. It has been a long time since I had one of this. Really good and tasteful, although I actually prefer the no.10.

Bottle of 33cl, in a Trappist glass; room temperature. Good Trappist beer, a little bit greedy in taste in comparison with his big sister. Nice aroma and taste dominate by the Trappist yeast. Try it.

Used to be one of my favourites. Still one of the better style examples, but Iíve travelled on from Belgium.

Type: 330-ml. bottle (11.2 oz.) Glass: Westvleteren 12 Trappist glass From: San Diego Wine Company in Miramar (San Diego), Calif. Price: $5.99 Purchased: N/A; Received on April 23, 2016 Consumed: April 27, 2016 Misc.: Best before July 23, 2019 Thanks, Tom! My wifeís uncle, Tom, brought this as a gift, along with Founderís KBS and Acoustic Ales Instant Triple Karma. Unbelievably nice as I hadnít had the chance so have either. Have always wanted to try these Trappistes Rochefort beers, but this will be my first. Poured an auburn, murky color with 1-to-2 fingers of frothy, khaki head. Light bubbles coming up from the bottom. Minimal wet lacing. Average retention. (Sight - 4.00) Smelled that 9.2 pct. ABV right away. Once that settled, got spoiled plum, toffee, some candied caramel, red apple, purple grape, raisins, prunes and more dark fruits. Funky overall. (Smell - 4.00) Taste was a bit better, but still on those funky notes. Got roasted toffee, candied caramel, spoiled plum, raisins, prune juice, dates, rye bread, purple grape, red apple, some blackberry, hints of rum, light notes of chocolate and some wintry spices. (Taste - 4.00) Medium body. Oily texture. Average-to-lively carbonation. Long, warming finish. (Feel - 4.25) I really wanted to like this one but probably ended up overrating it as a result. It was good, but not something I would need to try again. Itís not like Iíve never tried a Belgian Strong Dark Ale (this was my 12th) but it was just good, not great. Maybe this is supposed to be the standard, but I reviewed it as is. (Overall - 4.00) 4.03 90 A-

The same dark honey colour as number 6, but slightly darker with smaller beige top and stronger carbonation. Complex liquid with potent aroma and taste. Intense strong ale. Highest world class.

Served in a La Trappe Trappist glass from a bottle. Pours chestnut brown colour with a creamy fast diminishing head. Aroma is yet again a typical Trappist beer aroma - caramel, malt, bread, yeast. Taste is bready and slightly salty but nicely balanced. Medium body with lively carbonation (almost on a prickly side). Nice enough to have more.

Bootle 0,33. Pours dark amber with medium diminishing off-white head. Aroma of yeast, caramel, sweet fruits, a hint of coffee and raisins. Sweet taste that follows the aroma, however more of dark fruits and a hint of vanilla. Creamy, somewhat sticky texture with full body. Excellent, looking forward to the 10.

Certainly a fine fine beer, itís drier (in the port sense, not the overhopped awful sense) but it has a perfect rich raisin-y palate and finishes in a balanced way. Slightly hoppy
