2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
On draft at Dan's. The pour is a murky brown, with a very thin complexion. There is a light film of head and nothing special. The aroma has a light coffee note and a touch of chocolate. You can smell the roasted malt and a small bitterness on the nose. The taste is pretty thin. There is roast and a bit of coffee. The cream and sweetness is there lightly not what I'd expect on a milkshake stout namesake. Not awful,
But I can't say I'd get another one

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap. Very nice stout aroma. Chocolate comes through quite a bit. Taste is rather sweet. Palate is a little lighter than expected. Overall a nice stout but it lacks that oomph I was looking for.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
16 oz can served in a snifter.
Pours is a deep dark brown, opaque in the glass, with a tan head that has limited size and retention but leaves decent lacing.
Aroma: sweet malts and chocolate
Flavor: lightly and appropriately sweet, with a richer and darker malt base than I would have guessed from the smell alone. Still, not quite as robust as Iíd like.
Feel: medium-full body; medium-light carbonation.
O: a satisfying milk stout in a can.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
16 ounce can into pint glass, no canning date. Pours nearly pitch black color with a 1-2 finger foamy tan head with decent retention, that reduces to a thin lace cap that eventually disappears. Minimal lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of milk chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, caramel, toast, toffee, light coffee, cream, herbal, light floral, and roasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good dark/roasted malt balance; and decent strength. Taste of milk chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, toffee, cream, herbal, light floral and roasted earthiness. Minimal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, toffee, cream, herbal, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a bit. Good balance of dark/roasted malt, cocoa, and lactose flavors; with solid robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a moderately creamy and smooth mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very solid milk stout. Good balance and robustness of dark/roasted malt, cocoa, and lactose flavors; and very smooth to drink. An enjoyable offering.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Not bad at all. Strong chocolate aroma following through in taste. Some roasty notes. Sweetness present but not invasive. Quite creamy milk in flavor as well. Quite thin in mouthfeel, and would benefit from enhancements in this area. Not overly complex, although lingering coffee notes that don't reveal themselves sooner. Very low ABV of 5-ish. B.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Dark brown pour with an inch or so of offwhite thick head. Aroma of grass, metallic/iron, and smokiness. Low carbonation, thin mouthfeel for the style, finish is clean. Lots of creaminess in the flavor, roasty campfire malt, a little acidity, chocolate. Decent stout but nothing to write home about.

3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Was hoping for more. Lacking the creamy body and more chocolate. Black body, tan head. Steeping grains aroma . Taste is bitter chocolate, milk sugar, but lacking in the body and more vanilla chocolate taste.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
No canning date -- poured into a shaker pint.
Appearance: Pours pitch black with a very short lived tan head. Patchy lacing at best. Pretty much no bubbles in the beer that I can see after a few minutes. Meh.
Smell: Super metallic... I figured it may be my glass, but it smelled the same out of the can. I try to get other aromas out of it, but the metal smell is dominating everything else. Thereís a really, REALLY subtle chocolate sort of aroma in there as well, but itís way in the background. Doesnít smell awful (outside of the blood smell), but it doesnít exactly smell good, either.
Taste/feel: Really, same as the smell. Not much to taste beer. A mild metallic after taste, not much going on on the front of each sip... really quite bland. Back of the throat has a pleasant roastiness. Thereís some chocolate on top of the roasted malts, but itís really subdued. The feel on this one is the best part of the beer -- itís not super thick, but has a pleasant creaminess, with light carbonation.
Disappointed. I have to think that this can was old... which would be kind of confusing, considering I live only about 20 minutes or so from the brewery. Itís not an awful, undrinkable stout, but thereís nothing about it that stands out. It isnít sweet like a milkshake, it doesnít taste like a milkshake, it doesnít feel like a milkshake. The name "milkshake stout" is misleading, as it tastes like nothing more than a plain old stout -- with a metallic note in the aroma and taste. Might try it again on tap, but not out of a can again.
