2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Scrapersnbeer (217) - Boston, Massachusetts, USA - FEB 8, 2012
Beer is a clear deep ruby that does not look like barleywine. Grainy caramel aroma like what shows up in Long Trail’s brews. Vermont thing perhaps. Semisweet with a burnt out aftertaste. Medium body, chalky feel and rather flat. Bottled 12/19/11. Recommendation from someone who never picked a bad beer - this one is just okay.

"Provided in a trade with someone from Philly. They bought this in a beer store in Vermont and I traded them a Long Trail Tripel Bag... Not a bad deal.
Bottled on November of 2011. Poured into a Dogfish Head Glass.
A - Poured a caramel and amber color with no head at all despite a vigorous pour.
S - Chocolate malt and floral tones. I like the breadiness of this as well. Very unique to smaller breweries especially up here in Vermont.
T - Mmmm. This is a delicious barleywine. Very smooth and tasty! I’m getting some chocolate and caramel with a bit of liquor taste coming through. It’s not very complex.
M - Smooth indeed. I love the carbonation in it upon one single swish in the mouth. Good thing the flavor is good because it really stays with you.
O - I’d like to buy this again. Tasty!!!!"

Well, I was kinda dissapointed by this. Kinda slick and watery. Aroma was not that intriguing. Finishes weak. Not too sweet like a lot of BWs are but this just didn’t seem like a BW.

Meh. Lots of plum and raisin-y stuff up front. Not backed by a whole lot. Very light in the mouth, not typical of style in my experience at all.

Clear copper color with a thin tannish head. Thin for a barley wine. Malty with hints of dried fruit (cherry, fig, raisin). Lacking in the fullness and heaviness I would expect from the style.

Sample from a bottle shared by a generous individual at Jackie O’s 6th Anniversary Extravaganza on 12/3/11. Clear amber pour with a thin off-white head. Aroma is grainy malt, fruit and caramel. Caramel and grainy malt flavor with some berry accents and a crisp, clean finish.

On draft at the brewery. Amberish color with a medium head, smooth for 7.5 percent but not very complex. Drinkable.

Dark amber/brown color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of sweet malt, dark fruit, & spice; Flavor of lightly roasted sweet malt, spicy hops, dark fruit, and some caramel; Finish is slightly bitter; About average for me.
