Black Moon is a limited-batch beer collaboratively crafted by Rock Art Brewery and Hunger Mountain Coop. Inspired by the private, intimate and richly renewing time when the moon is dark in the sky. Black Moon processes an alluring darkness brimming with possibility. Black Moon is a deep, dark, highly hopped offering whose roasted malts subtly eclipse its bright hop notes, creating a unique full-flavored beer that can be enjoyed throughout the year, savored in moments of solitude or among close friends

Malty, moldy, humid, piquant, spicy aroma, plus some limey tang. The taste is another world from the scent: smoky and malty, with some burnt caramel warmth in the finish. Black Moon is a malty, slightly oily, resiny IIPA, with some fine, roasty malts. I like reviewer Garret’s point that it is not really an IPA. Very good if not super - a solid purchase.

From the 650 ml. bottle. Clipped at February but I am never sure of what year the way Rock Art marks its labels. Deep dark brown color with a foamy, lingering tan head. The aroma is a fill does of earthy, piney hops with a moderate malt character. Just a little booze. The body is full yet smooth. Those pine and earthy hops really penetrate the senses when I taste it. They attack my sinuses while the gritty and charcoal tasting malts play underneath. Explosive hope bitterness. Anyone who goes beer shopping in Vermont knows that the Hunger Mountain Cooperative in Montpelier is a good place to find some special beers. So it was not happenstance that one of Vermont’s premier local breweries (Rock Art) would collaborate to brew a beer specifically for The Coop.

Bomber from the brewery. Pours a clear dark brown with a thin creamy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of citrus, piney hops, chocolate and a bit of roasted malt and clay. The taste is chocolate, roasted malt, strong citrus hops. Medium bodied, lingering bitterness.

Bottle from Woodstock Hops and Barley. Black with tan head and lace. Spicy hop aroma with hints of fruity hops and chocolate chip cookies. Roasted dark chocolate covered coffee beans nuts and lots of tangy fruitiness sweetness. Medium complex spicy cinnamon and fruity hops. Fairly dry with some lingering woody spicy bitterness. Fairly complex. Very good, maybe excellent. I’ll decide when it warms up a bit. Great palate for abv well hidden alcohol. I guess I’ll go with excellent.

Pretty boozy and intense black ipa, not ridiculously hopped, lots of roasted notes and cocoa.

Almost black in color with a tiny off white head. Hoppy roasted malt nose, maybe a little bit of coffee. Taste starts out bitter with roasted notes but turns sweet quickly. Finishes long and bitter.

Bottle shared in London - picked up in VT. Pours black-brown with a frothy khaki head. The nose has grapes, moderate roast, dry cocoa. Light to medium sweet flavor with dried citrus, burnt toast, cocoa. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Decent finish, some baking cocoa, good roast, dry grapefruit, burnt grass and pine.
