COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black Moon is a limited-batch beer collaboratively crafted by Rock Art Brewery and Hunger Mountain Coop. Inspired by the private, intimate and richly renewing time when the moon is dark in the sky. Black Moon processes an alluring darkness brimming with possibility. Black Moon is a deep, dark, highly hopped offering whose roasted malts subtly eclipse its bright hop notes, creating a unique full-flavored beer that can be enjoyed throughout the year, savored in moments of solitude or among close friends

600 ml bottle shared with czar and friends. Opaque black with a short lasting beige head. Smell is pine tree, herbal hops, coffee. Taste is coffee, roast, chocolate and cream. Some, first very subtle, coffee and herbal bitterness. Lingers on for quite a while. Then, boom! Hits like a truck, very solid bitterness invades the mouth. Medium to strong bodied, weak carbonation. A solid black IPA.

January 6, 2012 - with blankboy, garthicus, gregclow, jerc & mabel. My bomber. Black pour with a smallish but lasting creamy/foamy tan rocky head. Aroma is very roasty, dry herbal/resin bitterness; leafy, lactic and definite alcohol presence (7+). Taste follows - resin, alcohol and tons of nutty dark roast, maybe a hint of metal. Average body, astringent, mild carbonation, quite a long dry nearly burnt finish and linger - not bad ... I still really dont consider black IPA a go-to style of me: give me HOPPY, or give me ROAST - just not in the same glass, if you please.

Split a 22oz bottle. Poured a dark brown color with a medium sized off-white head. Aroma was roasted malts, with some citrus and pine bitterness in there. Flavor was pine citrus, with some caramel notes. A pretty well balanced Black IPA. Enjoyed it a lot.

Impressive and strong Black IPA. At 10%, this is not a drinker, but the booze is well hidden under a smoky hoppy umbrella. Well made and well priced at 5.99 for 22 oz.

Bottle. Pours black with a nice tan head that left good lacing. Aroma of pine, caramel, chocolate and roast. Rich flavor of roasted malts, caramel, pine, chocolate and cocoa with a medium body and had a dry finish.

22oz bottle picked up at the brewery in Morrisville, VT. Pours a black body with a finger-width, creamy and frothy, brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is big orange hops and sweeter caramels up front before some chocolate and a light roast come in. The oranges are pretty sweet and juicy with some resins, florals, and a light pine. Flavor is similar. Lots of sweet orange hops and caramels up front with some resins, florals, and light pines. Some chocolate in the middle before a light roast comes in that is more distinct than the aroma. The light roasts and orange hops lead this into the end where it finishes mostly dry with a medium-light, somewhat resiny bitterness from the light roasts and pines along with a pretty sweet caramel and chocolate malt backing. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium body and a soft, medium carbonation. Overall, a sweeter, but solid Black IPA. Lots of orange hops and caramels, but a nice chocolate and light roast shows up towards the finish. Bumping the palate up a point because this absolutely does not drink like 10%.

Sample thanks to motortoddhead. Dark brown/black. Pleasant aroma of fresh citrus and pine hops with light cocoa/roast malt background. Flavor is moderate pine and citrus bitterness with a caramel, faint roast finish. Some residual roast and sweet pine. Mildly sticky mouthfeel. This black IPA is a success, as the roast aspects do not muddle the hops’ presence in the aroma or flavor.
