canary dog (371), Rutland, Vermont, USA Nov 11, 2007 I was surprised by this one. I haven’t really had anything too great yet from these guys. This is a VERY fine brew. Very well balanced malt and rich floral hops. Alcohol is well hidden. Despite a slight Irish mossy (?) note in there (not as bad as the Tomahawkus), it was a very smooth beer. I think this compares favorably to Stone Arrogant Bastard. Their best stuff I have tried so far. I’m also a little surprised by the low ratings here so far.
Ibrew2or3 (1613), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Jul 20, 2008 Courtesy of Gillard. Pours gold with copper core and white head. The aroma is sweet grapefruit and orange with some malts in the back. I don’t get much else. The taste is nearing sticky malts and moves toward pine hop bitterness. I get faint grapefruit hops and near midway mildly roasted malts and malt sweetness. Certainly a nice load of bitter hops up front running into malt to the finish. fishingnet (737), Brandon, Florida, USA Jul 20, 2008 Bottle courtesy Gillard. Pours a clear copper with a large off-white head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of citrus, malt, and caramel. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium mouthfeel with a moderate to strong amount of bitterness and well hidden alcohol. Good. ghostmonkey (139), budd lake, New Jersey, USA Jul 9, 2008 pours cloudy brown with a light white head . . aroma is subtle pine wiht some citrus fruit . . taste is creamy, pine with grapefruit . . slightly bitter but has a smooth sweet finish . . i enjoyed it sebletitje (147), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 9, 2008 Bottel courtesy of Gillard.
Pours amber. Taste is malty with sweet caramel followed by hints of hops. Nothing really memorable. Dorwart (1593), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA Jun 28, 2008 Decent sized sloppy white head of varying sized bubbles. Reduces to a rocky sloppy mess. Light malt aroma with some cinnamon, ritz crackers and a bit of floral hops. No where near enough hops for a IIPA. Color is a dark amber. Roasty and bitter. Bit of harsh bitterness and some caramel. Some orange and spices. Noticable alcohol presence. Finishes bitter and dry and a chalky. I have learned not to expect too much from this brewery. This is another reason why.
