RateBeer Rating, Style and Glass: 88, American Strong Ale, trappist ABV, Volume & Calories: 8% in 22 fl oz. estimated at 400 C Purchased at: Canal’s, Lawrenceville, NJ for $2.99 Aroma: bitterness, grapefruit, pine, very nice. 10 out of 10. Visuals: interesting and funny label, good unique presentation, clody orange color, staying white head, intricate lace. 5 out of 5. Taste: some barley, mostly hops, very strong, master craft. 10 out of 10. Palate: high quality, sandy texture, bitter, delicious finish. 5 out of 5. Overall: It’s all about the hops. Perhaps my perfect beer. I can’t wait to have it again. It’s a favorite. It is without a doubt, one of the best values I’ve encountered. Master crafted. 20 out of 20.

I had the second half of a pony keg of this all to myself, left over after a housewarming party, years ago (it was a very intimate gathering). Flavor and aroma dominated by hops, big thick foaming head, very cloudy/hazy look to it. Tied w/ Vermonster for my favorite Rock Art.

What a phenomenal beer. Smell is of hops and citrus; taste is fairly sweet, very slightly bitter. It has a very sticky, heavy mouth-feel. It’s very hard to label this an ESB... definitely a stretch on Rock Art’s part. But who cares? This beer is great, whatever you want to call it--Imperial ESB or American Strong Ale.

Whomp, there it is. Redolent with sweet citrusy tomakawk hops this brew is well balanced for an "extreme" style, packing aroma and flavoring hops but mitigating them with a solid unpretentious malt backing. Packing a rocky white head, nice lacing and good retention, this is a dangerous lady, weighing in at 8%, but doing well to hide it. Very easy drinking for such a heady beer!

Bottle from Capone’s. Pours turbid pumpkiny orangy with 1-finger off-white head. Aroma of heavy piney resiny hops, tropical fruit, including mango, tangerine, and bready caramel malt. Tastes richly caramel malty, with some bready, spicy hints, and a lot of mid-palate and finishing tropical fruit esters and citrusy notes. Very rich, complex palate.

Bottle from hellbilly. Thanks Joshua! You were right man, this stuff is delicious. A hop heads delight. The aroma is super fruity, hints of caramel malt, pine, grapefruit, wood, earth. Basically a shit ton of hops in this one with a nice underlying caramel sweetness. Pours a hazy orange brown with a huge big bubbled foamy head. Some caramel malts start out, not sweet, but a nice caramel base. Followed by this are an insane hop base that consists of citrus and pine. This moves into a ton of earth and wood which then lingers on the palate for a while. Almost tastes fresh hopped I would think due to the earthy leafiness. It does have balance, just the right amount. Love the hops, medium carbonation, finish that lasts forever. This is my style of beer. Thanks again for the hook up. I might need to get a couple more bottles of this for next trade. I could drink this everyday.

Pours a light brown, golden and slightly foggy in appearance that leaves a thick frothy white head that disappears pretty quickly. The aroma is strong molasses, hop citrus, pine, caramel, sugary sweetness. The taste starts bitter upfront with a citrus rind bitterness, followed by a spicy honey flavor on the palate which is smooth but the bitterness is again strong upfront. Overall this is a good beer easily the best Rock Art beer I’ve tried but not so extreme but quality and worth trying.

1.6 pint bottle into a Trappist glass....hops cubed indeed noted as the beer is poured, aggressive yet respectful...consistent head on a dense orange body--look of a solid ESB...slick, straight-to-back of mouth push; aftertaste sidles over tongue’s edges...a complex beer, demanding a full drink...too much hops for an ESB?....a bit of citrus flourish... leery of anything labeled extreme--most of all, beer--and likewise leery of these Vermont brewers (i.e. Magic Hat) who can’t confidently categorize their own brews, I still am impressed with an 8% ABV that offers NO hint in the tasting whatever...this beer was a pleasant surprise, and provokes me to seek other Rock Art work...

22 oz - Dark hazed copper, thick creamy off white head. Nose held full on tropical hop notes of mango and guava, with softer notes of toasty brown sugar and peach. Flavor hits similar notes with a tropical fruit salad hoppiness that slowly fades into more fuzzy fruit and sweet toasted caramel tones. Great hop flavor without major bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, soft bitter finish. Very well constructed...

Coppery amber orange in color with a whitish head. Punchy and full with a bitterness in the finish. Hoppy with a bit of spice and a little citrus in the flavor. Nice, strong, and would go with a variety of meals.
