"Grab your darts and let's go!" This is a dark ruby red porter with a medium body. A slight hint of smoke is detected from a small portion of grains used that are smoked with beechwood. Pale, chocolate, black and crystal grains are also used with Northern Brewer and East Kent Golding hops.

12oz bottle. Pours a dark brownish-red with a light tan head. Smoky aroma followed by flavors of smoke and coffee with an overall bitterness throughout. I usually like smoky coffee flavors but coupled with a very thin, almost watery palate this one seems a bit lacking.

Bottle via Dad. Lightly smokey nose on this thin bodied translucent brown beer. Light to medium carbonation, as the amount seemingly undulated from slow to moderate. Hops linger in wings. Thinner watery body takes quite a bit away from overall experience. Smoked character is strong but it is pretty much the singular focus. Porter it is not.

Bottle. Pours a dark black color with off white foam head. Aroma of caramel and smoke. Sweet caramel taste with heavy smoke and a balancing bitter layer. Too smokey for my taste. Watery.

UPDATED: NOV 12, 2010 Sampled at the brewery - Pours a dark brown in color, but has reddish tones if held to the light. Aroma is of roasted and smoked malts with some sweetness underneath. Flavor is quite smoky with some dark fruits and perhaps some chocolate. Finish is slightly bitter. I liked it!

From a bottle variety pack brought back by a friend who went home to VT for a visit - Pours a dark ruby brown with a small, white head. Smells of malts with some light roast and intense smokey woodiness. Taste is roasty dark maltswith a little sweetness and a hint of dark fruits. The smokiness is there for the whole event from first whiff to the last sip - pretty decent porter and I would rank this as the best beer in the variery pack.

The appearance is dark brown; light brings a reddish tinge, akin to a dark brown ale. Head lasts a few minutes, then becomes a layer of thin film. Specks of lace. Wonderfully deep roasted, nutty and smoky smell. Bready and dry. Slightly sweet accent of plums, but mostly roasted. Immediate smoky flavor, similar to mesquite, followed by bittersweet malts. The mesquite become an accent and the roasted malts and sweet stone fruits take over. Really nice. Burnt cookies with warmth. The feel is dry and ashy; sandpaper. It’s a very nice, dry porter. Smoky and rich.
