3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a nice dark ruby color-almost black. Next to no had at all. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate and some hops. Taste is mostly roasted malts with some chocolate and fruit. Agree with jfurycat. Best from Rock Art Iíve ever had.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
There is a slight roasted malt character in here but the smoky aspects are more abundant and the body is more on the medium side. Its good that they stuck this one in the variety case (not that I bought it!). It is well balanced and an easy to drink beer. This is the best Rock Art beer Iíve had so far.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Growler, thanks to Kelly. Black body, thin head of large bubbles (hey, its a growler) Nose is cocoa, milk, somke, nice roasty malt, a little cherry. Flavor is not as sweet as the nose suggests. Dry roast malt, some dark fruitiness, a hint of inky smoke. Bitter mocha finish w. some fruitiness.

2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
I had a variety pack of four RA beers (Thanks Jess!) and all four beers were a surprise since the beer in the bottle seemed randomly matched with the style listed on the label. With this one I couldnít detect event the lightest hint of smoke. And as for it being a porter, it didnít really exhibit any of the roasted malt character I would expect. But, the beer was not unpleasant, it struck me somewhere between a straightforward brown or mild ale.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Growler. Nice aroma with a slight smokeiness evident. Very smooth and drinkable with the smoke not being overdone.

bottle. 4.26.06. you can see that this isnít a super dark porter, pours with very slight head, slight hickory aroma, nice flavorful drinkable porter. barely discernable smokiness in the mouth, could be a little more chewy.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark ruby brown with a light tan head. Sesame, soy and smoked malt aroma. Body starts lightly sugary sweet and dry with plenty of roasted and somewhat smoky malt. Finishes very dry and kinda thin, but not as smooth as it could be either.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: MAY 22, 2004 Sept 2001: Solid, well-crafted robust porter, but not really smoky enough for me; those interested in the smoked style but cautious might want a go, but it ain't even CLOSE to the Brauerei Heller-Trum products.
May 2004, on draught at American Flatbread, Burlington. Very vinous, thin, smoke mostly in the nose, not a lot of malt character nor roastiness except for a late bitter edge. No comparison whatsoever with VT Pub or Stone.
