3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a deep amber with a tan loosely knit head. Aroma is of Light pine and a hdgepodge of malts, nothing really defines the aroma. The body is awefully light for the style. The Flavors are again a hodgepodge of biscuits, cookies and grapefruit but nothing really takes charge to define the beer. Finishes fairly dry but certainly no heat. Not a bad beer per se, but unfortunately due to alcohol limits in VT, this just can’t be considered a barleywine, a descent American Strong Ale but not Barleywine.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
More like a brown ale. Lots of caramel in the aroma and flavor. Very lively carbonation. Not much of a barley wine.

Great flavor and smoothness with a lot of character... Lacks some of the boldness of other barley wines i have tasted but overall a great beer

2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
12oz bottle via John. Dark, semi-ruby amber with a light beige head that fades to nothing. Slightly stale and wet hops, stale caramel, pear, light alcohol, thin and light carbonation, off malty finish. Did not enjoy this one - not well balanced and the maltiness is not pleasant.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
10/10/2013. On tap. Copper color with a tan head. Aromas of sweet malt, dried fruit, caramel. A little mild for a barley wine, yet the alcohol never shows through. Not bad.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 8/20
Smells more malty than hoppy. Don’t care for how it looks also. Taste caramel and somewhat chocolately. Flavor isn’t impressive at all. A creamy texture is its only redeming value. Avoid this one and choose a different Barley wine.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 0z. bottle. Pours dark brown, filtered. Head is surprisingly light for such a dark malt, lacing and head retention are average but ok when you consider the 7.5% ABV. Sell is musty hops, some dark fruit (plum perhaps?) citrus and yeast. taste is bitter malt with a bit of sweetness followed by increasing bittering hops, maybe a bit of raisin in there. This is a very drinkable beer, but when I rate this based on the style, something is way off. Not enough alcohol or malt complexity to be a barley wine. Too low in ABV to age it, which is one of the best characteristics of a barley wine. Not a bad beer, just think they should call it something different.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle at home. Pours clear tawny to brown with a medium, frothy beige head, medium retention with light lacing. Aroma is cookie, caramel, and nutty malt, peach and pear fruity esters with spicy hops. Flavor is malt and hop balanced, medium bitterness, alcohol spiciness, and a dry finish. Full body and medium carbonation.

3.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a medium reddish copper color with a smallish off white head that quickly dissipates to a ring on top. Smells of caramel toffee and light bready grainy malt. Light sulfur and a hint of earth with a light butterscotch round out the nose. The flavor is biscuity bready grainy maltiness with bits of toffee and butterscotch. Light earthy hops flavor with a bit of sulfur provides a counter the the malty sweetness. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet slick mouthfeel. Nice enough barleywine, the bready maltiness is nice but the toffee butterscotch is a bit too much on my palette.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Red/orange amber with thin head riming the glass; great aroma of malty sweet caramelishness and touch of hop spicnessishness; feels rich and foamy yet crisp; flava is a tease between hops grain/barley and fruity/sugary sweetness.
this is what I love about this style- when done right, it has the full spectrum of beer characteristics malty & hoppy; rich yet crisp; sweet yet dry; easy to drink yet strong. Rock Art, you nailed it!
