4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Red/orange amber with thin head riming the glass; great aroma of malty sweet caramelishness and touch of hop spicnessishness; feels rich and foamy yet crisp; flava is a tease between hops grain/barley and fruity/sugary sweetness.
this is what I love about this style- when done right, it has the full spectrum of beer characteristics malty & hoppy; rich yet crisp; sweet yet dry; easy to drink yet strong. Rock Art, you nailed it!

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draft sample at the source. Poured a clear amber color, tiny bubbly tan head. Aroma or caramel, sweet malts. Flavor had some toffee and caramel. Very light and thin for a baley wine. Soft carbonation, smooth finish. More of an amber feel to me than barley wine.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
This was poured into a chalice.
The appearance was a dark hazy amber color with a slim quarter finger’s worth of white foamy head that dissipated within seconds.
The smell starts off with a semi-sweet cooked caramel malt trying to blend with light vanilla and herbal/tea-like qualities running over some light cooked cocoa tones.
The taste pretty much copies the aroma decently. There’s no aftertaste but it does have a slight smooth semi-dry finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a decent sipping quality about it. Carbonation hits just a tad harder than other Barleywines I’ve had.
Overall, mostly average barleywine with a mouthfeel that probably could be tamed a tad more.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Sample at Rock Art, very clear amber color, fast dying head. Aroma is stale English malts, caramel, mild toffee and house yeast. The flavor is much the same. Very mild example of a barely wine. Well, it did start over 10 years ago...

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Taster at the source. Four beers into an 8 beer flight and the best thing on my flight board so far is the oyster crackers. Aroma is caramel, Robotussin. Starts watery and sugary sweet, then finishes with straight up bitter. I hope it gets better from here.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Lisai’s. Amber with ring and lace. Mild aroma of woody hops and caramel brown sugar and fruitcake. Burnt caramel and and some tangy fruity sweetness with medium bitter woody and herbal bitterness. Fairly dry (a little cold). Medium body. Not a bad beer, but I wouldn’t call it a barley wine. Definitely a better IPA than Long Trail’s new Sick Day. Very good, but points off for style because if people came looking for a barley wine, I would not really recommend this one.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Thinner body for the style. Mainly malt and earth complexion. Some dark fruits. I can barely pick out the barley and chocolate, it’s coming across as dirt to me. The taste tapers away leaving a malty residue. Inoffensive but uninspiring as well.

2.9 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a deep maroon with a small team head. Smells like veggies, also some grass and alcohol. Better flavors, intensely malty but with a distracting stale hoppiness. Some welcome roast notes, especially in the aftertaste. Thick and smooth, just doesn’t smell or taste right.
