4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
You can smell the smokiness right away, but the big story with this beer is taste. A substantial feeling beer, it’s thick maltiness is undercut with a noticeable dose of hops. As it warms up it only gets tastier. A true winter beer and one I’ve underestimated in the past.

Bomber to snifter (thanks dudeabide). Looks good; cola with thin off-white lacing. Smells of dark malt and chocolate. Tastes like is smells, only milder, with an average mouthfeel. Decent beer.

22oz bomber. Dark mahogany color, no lacing, big headed bubbles fade down to nothing, quickly. Smells toasty. Taste is primarily roasted, bitter, and somewhat malty, but not sweet or complex. A little fizzy. I didn’t like it, it’s not my kind of stout.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Spirits Lacey. Pours out a well carbonated, almost blackcolor with a small, close to white head. Aroma is of light roast, some chocolate, and light bitterness. Taste is light roast, a good amount of baker’s chocolate, light sweetness and some lingering bitterness on the finish with a note of some dry chocolate cake. Overall not bad, but the body is lacking.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
22 oz bomber from Spirits Toms River. Poured a medium density pitch black body underneath a large bubbly light beige head. Aroma of lactose, dry dark chocolate, dark toast. The body is loaded with srong carbonation over a medium body that finishes with a quick burst of bitterness pushed through with more carbonation. Flavor is lactose, burnt notes, lightly burnt toast, tonic water. Body and flavor could use a bump but still not bad for the money.

Dry this one is ... There is some bitterness in the aftertaste that quickly disappears. Medium weight on the palate and lively carbonation.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz bottle Table and Vine, West Springfield, MA. Cost $5.99. Nice frothy off-white head. Nice thick, sticky lace down my English Pint glass. Aroma has roast, bitter chocolate, and smoky wood. Taste is roast, some earthy, light bittersweet chocolate. Some charred malt as well. Very dry, with a lingering bitterness. Light smokiness. Overall, a well-made dry stout. Good flavor and very drinkable if you like dry stouts, I do! Bit above average here.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Very dark brown body with a lighter copper glow near the bottom with a nice thick three centimetre tall light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, light hops, anise, nuts and a bit of caramel. Medium-bodied; Deep pungent roasty malt flavours at first then shows a nice complexity of hops, then a shows a dry oaky note and a good dose of anise. Aftertaste shows a lot of caramel, some licorice and other spices and all finished off with a dry, bittering malty bite and some alcohol. Overall, a nice dry stout that shows a lot of good character and some potent bittering flavours that might be a bit too strong for some. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Liquor Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 24-July-2011 sampled at home in Washington on 30-July-2011.
