RAYBOY01 (1622), Chicago, Illinois, USA Mar 23, 2008 Golden pour with frothy white head. The alcohol is pretty forward, and is the predominating component in the nose. Very sweet, almost cloying, and hot from the booze. The Belgian spices are evident but in the background, mainly in the slight citrusy notes and touches of fruity yeast.
sstackho (242), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 17, 2008 On tap at Rock Bottom Chicago (obviously). Pours a clear, light brown. Little head. Light yeasty aroma, hinting of sweetness to come. Which it does. Sweetness upfront, yeastiness, with some light spice throughout. Full bodied. A bit too sweet overall.
sersdf (859), chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 17, 2008 draft at the place. they’re putting this out currently under the name ’belgian strong pale ale.’ headless, served slightly warmer than cooler temp, which was nice. smelled of belgian esters and malts. tasted similar. mayb have been a tad too sweet, but hat’s how you get that 10.5 without even noticing the alcohol. pretty good, i’d definitely have it again. Glouglouburp (1915), Montreal, Quebec, Canada May 21, 2008 In short: Tasty and sharp Belgian Strong Ale.
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Clear golden body with a long-lasting off-white head.
In long: Quite a bit of honey flavour in this beer. Full sticky body. Carbonation was appropriately a bit more lively carbonation than most of their other beers. Lots of dry and citric hops in the finish. Some orange peels. Light acidity. Overall pretty sharp and almost aggressive. Probably the best beer I had at this brewpub. Nothing great but it made me glad I visited the pub, it wasn’t the first time I hit Rock Bottom, the first time was when my girlfriend dumped me, I lost my job and I was doing little tricks in a dark alley to get some food. LeMunche (65), Orland Park, Illinois, USA Mar 25, 2008 Fairly good belgian ale. Alcohol is hidden mainly by lots of sweet flavors. I tend to prefer the dry belgians but this is still pretty good. Comparable to Three Floyds Alpha Kong IMO, taste wise at least. hombrepalo (446), Chicago, Illinois, USA Mar 24, 2008 On tap at Rock Fest ’08. Golden yellow haze, with some fluffy head. Bubbly taste of yeast, spice and citrus. A typical tasting Belgian with good balance. Alcohol not noticable at 10.5%. good overall beer.
