2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Draught during my Dark Lord expedition. Pours a bright orange/red with a quaint head. This is surprisingly see-through for the style. The nose is hearty and sweet with loads of yeasty notes. Very sweet smelling, but not too bad with notes of banana and cloves. The mouthfeel is medium heavy and the first thing I notice when taking a sip is that this is much more sugary than the aroma would let on. Cloves abound in the flavor with notes of rye and a light floral touch and a finish akin to bread pudding. As I reach the bottom of the goblet, the sweetness becomes heavy and overbearing. This would be much more enjoyable to me if the rock candy flavor were toned down a notch. I’d also say the pint-sized serving is a bit much for something this sweet.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draught at the brewpub, served in a very heavy goblet. Pours gold with tight ivory head. The aroma is banana and lemon, faint clove, maybe corriander, and a little bit of malty sweetness. The banana flavor hits first, then zest and a very honey-like malt. It gets a little spicier in the middle and finishes warm with some spicy hops. The aftertaste is very sweet. In fact, the whole thing is pretty sweet, and gets a little bit cloying. It’s a decent brew, but a chore to finish the glass.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Some wheat in the nose; smells like an American or Belgian strong. No visible carbonation. Excellent lace. Good Belgian Strong. Sweet with high alcohol profile. I really like this brew, but am guessing it wont score overly well in style percentile.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Golden pour with frothy white head. The alcohol is pretty forward, and is the predominating component in the nose. Very sweet, almost cloying, and hot from the booze. The Belgian spices are evident but in the background, mainly in the slight citrusy notes and touches of fruity yeast.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Served as a sticky, copper-bodied brew with a thin, tan film. Banana shows in aroma and flavor with an obviously high ABV. This one is sticky and warming with a ton of fruity yeasts and esters. Definitely a "slow sipper".

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Chicago. Translucent pale yellow-gold in color with a solid, thin, icy white splotch that covers the head. Aroma digresses with pears, bananas, cloves, linen sheets, golden sweet corn juice and lemons still in the skin, begging to be opened but patient being holed-up. Flavor spins a wonderful 180. Potato bread with fresh flour spatterings cake the mouth. Buttery yeast phenols team with coriander and buttered-rum pudding. Maybe it’d be cloying in my early craft beer days, but this baby’s Stille Nacht nature is basking in glory. Oily, thick, chewy, blanketed palate. Spicy dimension, yet everything’s in harmony, finishing with sweet potatoes, clover, coriander and fresh baguettes. Damn, this brewery is at the head of the class.

On tap at Rock Fest ’08. Golden yellow haze, with some fluffy head. Bubbly taste of yeast, spice and citrus. A typical tasting Belgian with good balance. Alcohol not noticable at 10.5%. good overall beer.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap, pours an opaque gold with small white head. The aroma is of heavy fruit and bubblegum. The flavor has a decent amount of spice to it and it is very sweet. I thought it was well balanced and seemed to hide the fact that is was a 10% beer, but it seems like not too many people agree with me.
