amber color, not much head, a little lacy. nose of whiskey, trace of friutiness. flavor is heavy whiskey, wood with hints of vanilla and fruit. medium bodied, sweetish finish. pretty good. and head brewer peter crowley didn’t try to hide the alcohol. sampled at rockfest 2010.

A hazed reddish copper alt with a thin off white head. A pleasant pungeant aroma of treacle, vinous notes, maple and wood. In mouth, a smooth oily sweet malt with light oaken notes, alcohol warmth, light and msooth. On tap at Rockfest, April 25 2010, as Davin’s got Whiskey Sticke.

NobleSquirrel (3437) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 10, 2010
Draft at Rockfest - RBC. Pours a slightly hazed ruby/brown. Nose is barrel, vanilla, bourbon and musty notes. Minimal oxidation, ton of syrupy bourbon character. Big and rich. Prefer the unaged version, but this is pretty interesting. Almost has some dark fruit notes as well. Nice.

TheAlum (5833) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - MAY 3, 2010
Sampled on tap at RockFest (Chicago, IL). Pours a nice darker amber, hazed, lighter around the edges with a more dispersed offwhite head, laces ok. Aromas are whiskey, vanilla, wet oak, sticky sweet caramel. Nice spirit depth. Initial is medium bodied, a bit thinned out with healthy whiskey dose of vanilla and caramel, charred oak, sweet caramel and toffee malts. A light booziness, light toffee sweetness. Very tasty, a very nicely balanced barrel element, I thought this was a very drinkable spirit aged brew, a bit sweet, but quite tasty.

UPDATED: MAY 5, 2010 One of fourty-five beers featured at Rock Bottom Brewery’s Rockfest in Chicago, IL. Smells just like whisky, but goes down so smooth. 12% alcohol. Pours a reddish brown. Smell is overwhealming whisky.

FoBAB 2009. This poured an amber body with a small white head. The aroma was boozey with some sweet fruity malt seeping out from time to time. The flavor was strong with the Bourbon but didn’t completely override the malty sweetness and apple and cherry notes. Not bad, but not one I’d repeat.

FoBAB. I actually prefer the regular Sticke Alt to this. It is very sweet. Pours dark reddish with a tan head. Bourbon aroma, it was a little bit of a disappointment.

HonkeyBra (3480) - Lemont, Illinois, USA - NOV 13, 2009
Draft from Rock Bottom Chicago. Barrel-aged alt is certainly an interesting idea. Pours a muddy red, with a tan head atop. Aroma of bourbony biscuit, some light fruit. Flavor has light bourbon notes, atop a toast, biscuity malt flavor. Dry, with a slight cherry and bit of crisp hop. Smooth bourbon booze finish. Nice coating mouthfeel.
