3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap @ RB. Pours clear brown with a thin head. Aroma of toffee, some nuts, and other spices. Malt heavy in the flavor, but still hides the 8.5% abv decent enough. Decent brew, nothing special. Having the amazing Elevated Russian Imperial before this probably ruined this one for me.

[Tap] Sampled in mid-December. Poured a rather clear light brown color. Sweet and malty aroma included some brown sugar and nutmeg. Taste is of sweet and roasted malts, cinnamon, nuts, fig and some alcohol. Solid palate and relatively low carbonation. This beer had more flavor and complexity compared to the other brews I sampled.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at the brewpub 12/16/2005: Pours a transparent ruby mahogany with a nicely-lacing, frothy tan head. Sweet earthy caramel aroma has a touch of German yeastiness and bread. Lots of sweet sticky dark caramel maltiness in the body has a hint of corn and earthy noble hoppiness. Fairly authentic, but could be more balanced.

4.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Chicago. Looks like I get to put this one on the map with the 10th rating. Deep, translucent, chestnut brown in color with a creamy tan head that pulls like marshmallows descending into a tube that’s too tight of a fit, and then leaves the most blanketing lace I’ve ever seen for a doppelbock. Cleanly, yet traditional, aroma ensues with chestnuts, pecan shavings, copper, mild sugarless milk chocolate cocoa powder and smooth cedar nodes. Milky, full-bodied delight the moment it graces the palate. Modest milk chocolate teams with chocolate covered pecans to impart a flavor of beauty. Sweet caramel-laden Rolos have been smeared and are now melting all over cedar sauna panels. All the while, it plays a tune of a chestnut and hazelnut backdrop. Whole-mouth Spanish inquisition. Perfectly balanced - in fact, if palate could be a 6, this would be a 10. Hazelnut sheafs and chocolatey toffee bring things to a close as I’m dumbstruck with how impressive this doppelbock is.
