Tap at R.B. Chicago. Dark amber color, frothy small off-white head. Caramel and fruity sweet malts with some sweet citrus coming in at the end. Very rich, but a bit too sweet for me.

Tap. Very dark brown body, tan head. Light tart malt aroma. Honey grahm cracker and chocolate flavor with pear-influenced tartness. Rich mouthfeel.

At the brewpub. Poured with a medium brown body with a frothy, slightly off white head. The aroma was sweet honey with cantalope and banana. The taste was sweet and alcoholic with apples and dry leaves. This has a nice finish and gets a little more dry.

On Tap @ the brewpub- Pours a Pours a clear dark amber red color, small white head. Aroma is ginerbread man, sinnamon, a little bit of fruit. Flavor is sweet, spicy lots of cinnamon and cherries, sweet malt. Very nice.

On tap at RB Chicago. Poured a deep brown with a short beige head. Very nice, intricate lacing followed it down. Vinous notes and other dark fruits in the aroma with spicy rye and some toasty dark maltage. Flavor was chock fulla smooth dark fruits, chocolate malt, and some English-style hoppage. Alcohol appeared in the warming finish. Smooth on the palate for the most part, with a little bitterness and alcohol bite on the tip of the tongue and around the edges... became more sharp as this warmed. This was very tasty!

RB Chicago. Pours to a nice clean brown body with a creamy beige head. The aroma is hoppy (English?) with some rye and strawberry. The flavor is hoppy and yeasty. Very delicious and hard to describe. Light strawberry. Leafy. The palate is rich and creamy. I think this beer is a phenominal example.

Draught, snifter: served full to brim, which makes it slightly hard to pull in the aroma, but after a few sips the slightly charred toast, and chocolate grain aroma is noticeable. Anise and burnt pepper tickle the nose. Smooth, creamy palate, but the flavours are a bit one dimensional…a bit of sweet berries and a roasted component. Significant drink-ability, but not outstanding.

Deep, dark brown with a fluffy, tan head. Big malty nose of raisin, cocoa, coffee, toasted grains, oily nuts, burnt toast and a light touch of marshmellow. Some licorice-esque alcohol comes out as well. The body is big and thick with light carbonation allowing the weight to be fully perceptible. The flavors are simple, but enjoyable. The malt is the dominate force here, but isn’t all that sweet. The burnt/roasted character mixes with perceptible, but mild hops to tweak the finish. The alcohol isn’t hot, but you can tell it’s there. Stylistically and hedonistically, this is good but not great.
