2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
UPDATED: OCT 10, 2007 Draft, sampler. One of those "light" beers that corporate brewpubs are required to keep on tap. Has that slightly metallic off flavor of a lite beer, but otherwise, not really terrible. There’s simply not too much you can do with this style.
Re-sampled, Oct. 8, 2007. Not much that changes my rating, but I’m surprised to note that I liked Tim Marshall’s version at the Yorktown location better. Maybe it’s because I had that in a mug and I’m piecing this out from a sampler.

0.9 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 3/20
On tap into a shot glass...This pours super light and clear, bud lightish...All skunk on the aroma and taste, terrible skunk. A slightly better version of an American macro but this beer is clearly tailored toward this crowd. Light lager is right...This is garbage, my girfriend and I wouldn’t even finish a 3 oz taste

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Part of a sampler at the brewpub. Palest lemony yellow, clear, skimpy head that leaves white rings. Sweet grainy aroma, faint apple. Light crackery malt, grainy, hints of ginger in the finish.

1.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20
I’m not a fan of light beers but am always willing to give them a chance, even though the taster glass of Line Drive Light staring back at me is awfully pale in pallor. I hope she doesn’t faint from loss of aroma and flavor before I can get to her aid. Very little head remains to take note of, and what little teasing I did produced not an iota of improvement. On the other hand, her nose is rather well-rounded for a light beer. Lemon and straw mingle together while soft white breads hold her frail form together. Mild, but with more to smell than some others I am not going to bother listing here. Her mouthfeel is soft, much like the white breads that make up a good portion of her palate. Blanched straw add to the soft bready mouthfeel and flavor while lemon tickles the top of my tongue, barely. No discernable hop character, just that faint shiver of lemon which disappears as quickly as it appears. Expectedly, a clean and therefore bland finish which thankfully doesn’t suffer from any acrid bitterness. In fact, a surprising final kiss of cream and white bread lingers for a few after each quaff right up till the very end.
For a light beer, pretty much the same-old same-old which is the same not much of anything. The Line Drive Light from Rock Bottom wins a few extra points for pleasant mouthfeel and a decent finish, but as is the goal with all light beers, the lack of any real aroma or flavor is always an expected disappointment for me. There is absolutely no reason that a small/mild beer has to sacrifice character and flavor to achieve sessionability.

1.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20
Tap at RBC. I figured I should try it as it was the only thing left on the menu that I hadn’t had. Pours a very pale yellow, thin head. Nose is a bit buttery. Taste is similar, I get diacetyl and that’s it. A kish of pils malt then gone. Poof.

1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
On tap at the Brewpub in Chicago in March 2008.
Clear yellow with a small white head. Mild aroma with grass and some citrus. The same was found in the flavor. Light body and soft carbonation. A boring beer.

[Tap] Pours a light yellow color without much head. Aroma of corn and cereal grains. Grains and slight grassy notes in the main flavor. Light palate and average carbonation. Not a whole lot happening here.

1.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
On tap at Rock Bottom Chicago. Clear yellow pour with a big white head. Not getting a nose off this beer at all. When I really try I get a bit of malt. Flavor is sorta crisp and malt forward. I don’t think I’m the target audience for this brew.
