Black with a sumptuous brown head. The wonderfully complex aroma typical of whiskey barrel aged Imperial, though perhaps a bit more welcoming. Vanilla, coconut, roasted coffee, chocolate, oak, whiskey and some residual sweetness of molasses and leftover malts. The flavor, however, was less complex and less inviting. The strong whiskey flavor was everything I don't enjoy from this sort of barrel aging. The overpowering whiskey was too much. However, if memory serves me correctly, it was fun mixing this with Hop 15 or with Mad Hatter; both added another level of complexity that was enjoyable.

Chicago Real Ale Fest keg #29 tapped a medium sized head of mostly diminishing brown colored bubbles that left behind a good lace. The body was opaque black as a starless night with no chance to see any carbonation. The aroma was nice with dark malt and a lot of port like qualities. The mouth feel was smooth initially with a strong dark malt port like finish. The flavor was vinuous dark malt and molasses. This was definitely a beer to respect and be careful with. This one has a lot of character to it and I am sure that if I had not already had had so many brews that I would have found a lot more to say about it!

BBB63 (5946) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - MAR 7, 2004
At RAF Chicago: Opaque with small tan head and clingy very good lacing. Big borbon nose with hints of vanilla, wood, port, dark fruits, grapefruit, pine spa, and earthy yeasy esters. The taste is big in your face vanilla and alcohol notes with a piney bite. Undertones of coffee and mocha noted as well. The finish is bittersweet. This full-bodied brew has a lush and warming character. Just a touch too much barrel character, but still very nice. Toast to the Redline Addison stop and Wrigley Field, home of the NL Central Champs!

UPDATED: OCT 3, 2005 Poured opaque black with a tan head and nice lacing. Roasty aroma of vanilla and whiskey too. Taste of sweet chocolate and coffee with an alcoholic whiskey finish. Nice relatively thick mouthfeel.
