i’m guessing this is what i had. it was listed as "barley wine" on the chalkboard with nothing else to id it. mahogany brown body with an off white head. alcohol is noticeable in the candy caramel nose. taste is more of an english barleywine variety. honeyed caramel malt flavor some pear and grape notes with a decent dark fruit plum or rasin taste. a herbal hop note in the finish. a bit too much sweetness as this gets a bit cloying, but it is a nice one to have while i wait for a bus, because it kept me warm once i went outside.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap @ Rock Bottom Denver poured a clear dark copper with a small lingering amber head. Aromas of carmel, toffee, stone fruit and a faint hint of spice. Palate was medium to full bodied and smooth. Flavors of toffee, carmel and stone fruit with a smooth warming lingering bittersweet finish.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draught at Colorado Springs. Pours a hazy mahagony with a large tan creamy and fizzy head, lasting, good spotty lacing. Aroma is roasted malt (nutty, caramel, cookie), average hops (floral, pine, perfume), average yeast (warm dough), with notes of brown sugar, chocolate and alcohol. Medium sweetness, heavy acidity, harsh bitterness, malty creamy roasted caramel nutty flavor, alcohol and hops. Full bodied, creamy yet spicy and fizzy, alcohol texture.

Draft at Rock Bottom Denver. Slightly hazed amber. Nose is malty and toffee laden. Soft hop notes. Taste is sweet but balanced. Some rumcake, sweet malts, fruits, and light spice. Body is creamy and smooth. Medium overall feel to it. Ends with more sweet malts, toffee and fruit notes. Not bad!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap at Denver. Jan 2005 vintage. The beer pours to a caramel/amber body with a dense thin white head. The aroma is sweet graham crackers with light English hops. The beer seemed to be well blended. Rich and malty graham cracker with nice English hops in the flavor. Very malty palate, excellent texture.

2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Has a slightly vinous stone fruit aroma to it, some cookie dough maltiness, but the hoppy sweetness that I was looking for was not present in the aroma. Creamy vanilla texture, that is slightly sweet, with a big warming alcohol bite, that is rather dominant throughout. A large annoyance to my palate. On par with Rock Bottom

2.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 8/20
Caramel, toffee and alcohol are notable in the aroma. Clear copper coloured body is topped by a low white head that recedes to ring. Flavour offers very strong alcohol up front but once that subsides, fruity berries, caramel and toffee flavoured malt character emeges. Somewhat vinous with moderate finishing bitterness. Medium light, dry body is quite hot with carbonation that is rather low. Sampled on tap at Rock Bottom Denver with Olivier_MTL and Rastacouere.

At the brewery: poured clear orange/red. Smallish off white head. Moderate brown sugar and hop aroma. Big sweet alcohol in the flavor. Artificially sweetened tea flavor. Where is the brown sugar and hops like the aroma had? Painfully absent. That artificial sweetener finish just killed me.

2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20

2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Fading white head offers its farewells to the amber-orange body. Faint caramel and cookie nose gets taken aback by the gigantic alcohol scrape. Through absent fruitiness and burnt woodiness, chaotic alcohol juice, it accentuates its complexity lack. Light-medium body, oily texture, liquorous and flat. Extremely sweet and hopefully looking for hop donators.
