1.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 4/20 OlivierMTL (711) - Quebec, - OCT 10, 2005Couleur brune foncée, apparence presque opaque.

Sample FOBAB ’12 - Poured medium-dark brown, thin tan head. Aroma is raspberry, chocolate, hint of bourbon. Flavor is similar - lots of raspberry, some chocolate, sweet malts, hint of bourbon. Palate is a bit thin, but not offensively so. Thought this was actually a solid beer - felt thin, but think that was a product of the company. Also, program showed this as aging in Woodford barrels...

This poured a medium brown color with a beige head. Aroma was dark chcolate, light roast, and light raspberries. Flavor was sweet, not acidic at all, pretty much like chocoalte covered raspberries, though watery and faint.

n tap at Rock Bottom poured an opaque dark brown with a small lasting tan head. Aromas of raspberry, cocoa, bourbon, light oak and light roastiness. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of raspberry, oak, bourbon, cocoa and light roastiness with a smooth dry lingering raspberry finish.
1.6 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 mephisto (1265) - TAIWAN - AUG 20, 2008
boring and forgetable brew. contains alcohol, hard to drink, not much else to talk about.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 TheBeerGod (4675) - Newport News, Virginia, USA - OCT 8, 2006
Draft at Rock Bottom Denver. Dark brown but translucent. Delicate tan head with larger bubbles. Nose unfortunately is all bourbon and wood. I can’t smell anything else. Taste is a bit more even. Bourbon, vanilla, light raspberry tartness and some sweet malt notes. There’s also a light candyish flavor as well. Body is a bit on the thin side. Still smooth though. Finishes with more bourbon, vanilla, wood, and soft fruit flavors. OK but I wish the beer came out a bit more.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Ernest (5645) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - SEP 4, 2006
Draught at the downtown Denver brewpub.
Head is mostly diminishing.
Body is medium brown.
Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (caramel, cookie), with notes of bourbon, raw wood, alcohol (some fusel), and a hint of berries.
Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter.
Medium body, watery texture, soft carbonation, moderately alcoholic.
Have to wonder if the 6.5% ABV listed here is correct or not, as the alcohol is quite prominent in both nose and finish. The bourbon and wood notes are quite strong, and there isn’t enough else there to save it for me. Very sweet. Not too enjoyable overall, but bourbon lovers may like it.

Dark coloured and strong in alcohol with a fruity aroma. Some bitterness and dryness in a whisky flavour finish.
1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 5/20 tiggmtl (4521) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - DEC 7, 2005
Biscuity but boozey and very sweet, raspberry coulis and chocolate in the aroma. Dark brown body with ruby highlights is topped by a low but lasting, fine bubbled (nitro), off white head that recedes slowly to a partial cover and ring. Raspberry jamlike sweetness is apparent in the stale, cardboard flavour with some roastiness in the finish. Alcohol is apparent throughout. Medium body with soft carbonation and a creamy, smooth texture is moderately warming. Sampled on tap at Rock Bottom Denver with Olivier_MTL and Rastacouere.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 ChristianSA (368) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - NOV 12, 2005
Tap. I can smell the rasberries, I can taste the bourbon, but where is the porter? Nice creamy Guiness like head. Aroma of rasberries and some wet cardboard. The flavor is totally dominated by bourbon with some chocolate in the finish. Not my kind of beer but a very bold experiment, which is why I rated it relatively high overall. I think this particular flavor combination would have been better in a more assertive basebeer. Low Co2, Watery finish. Served too cold. Pretty awful, now I think of it...

Quite possibly the worst beer I had during the GABF other than the Japanese lager Dan sent. This poured dark under a creamy tan head. Bourbon aroma. Flavor is like bourbon and water with touch of sourish raspberry. Watery bourbon finish. Nice in theory and the name sounds delicious but it doesn’t work here.
