3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
[On-tap at the Library Cafe in Des Moines] Pours reddish-brown with a beige head. Aroma is big on pine initially, with a lot of caramel after warming. The taste is caramel, a little tootsie roll, pine, good barley backbone. Good mouthfeel, smooth, long, dry finish. Overall, another very solid offering from Rock Bottom Des Moines.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tap at the brewpub. The body was a slightly hazy deep copper. The khaki colored head was long lasting. There was lots of pine with a little grapefruit in the nose. There was also strong caramel I assume from crystal malt. The taste was strong with the pine and caramel. Lots of hop bite in the finish. Nicely done.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A quick break from Pale Lager month to enter some notes in on a very nice beer they’re serving up out our Rock Bottom.
The beer pours a very hazy reddish almost copper color with a big lightly loose head and good lace. The aroma is fruity and piney hops, but really the coniferous notes take a back seat to melon and citrus in the aroma. Flavor-wise the fruity & piney hops are perfectly in tune and balance each other out very nicely; the bitterness level is very nice here not tongue bruising but well felt throughout. The one odd (but pleasant) thing I found about this beer was this sappy sort of sweetness that hits mid palate, the beer is dry up front and in the finish but for a fleeting moment there is this mild hint of sweetness that is nice and not cloying in anyway whatsoever but it makes for a weird kind of sensation. The spruce tips that were used are used here fabulously, as though they were treated as another hop varietal and they meld perfectly with the hop character of the beer.
A really good IPA, been getting a lot of good hoppy beers from Rock Bottom Des Moines as of late.
