hopdog (4444), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 11, 2008 Sampled from Growler filled earlier in the day. Poured a deep and cloudy yellow color with a small sized head. Aromas of mainly wheat with some spices, cereal, and bananas in the back ground. Tastes of wheat, citrus, and light bananas. This one was all about the wheat! egajdzis (2879), Terrapin, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 11, 2008 Poured a hazy lighter golden color with a small, white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of wheat malt, lighter banana, citrus fruits, toffee, but lots of yeast overall. Taste was upfront with some bananas, and clove, citrus fruits, toffee malts, and a drier finish. Not one of my favorite hefes. TomDecapolis (2346), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 10, 2008 Sampled from a growler pour. Pours a hazy orange with a small bubbly off white head. Aroma was earthy, clove, light banana, lots of wheat. Flavor of wheat, earthy, yeast, clove and light banana. The banana notes were really low in this one, citrus notes low as well. A little too earthy/wheaty for me. illinismitty (1331), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Mar 2, 2008 Draft AND cask at KOP. DRAFT-Pours cloudy amber orange with a nice hefe white head. Banana bubblegum ester aroma. Nice body but maybe a tad thin in texture. Flavor of pale wheat malt, banana, and clove- with some dryness. Not as sweet as I like my hefes. Finish has some subtle phenols.
CASK- First time I have ever had a Hefe on cask. Compared to the draft, this was less citrusy/tart, less carbonated, and the phenols were pretty much gone. It had a nagging flatness. It was interesting, but I don’t think Hefes are designed to be on cask. At least for me.
