3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Appearance: hazed, pale crimson color, lush head, nice looking in the mug.
Bright, fruity aroma, rosy and sweet, hints of nut...
...which follows through in the taste, but dark fruits are tops. Apple, melon, grape. Tasty hops dancing on the tongue, a tidy tango, slides off easily. Big, juicy fruit. Medium bodied, clean, efffortlessly easy to zip past your lips.
A pleasantly agreeable, light and tasty lager. Can’t go wrong here.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Date: May 23, 2012 Mode: Draft Source: RB Minneapolis Description: Translucent golden orange with some head. Sweet caramel and some light bitterness, not quite as bad as an amber ale but trying real hard. Not sure why they made a big deal about bringing this one back....sometimes the oldies are not the goodies.

On tap (sampler) at the Minneapolis location, RBSG 2007 pre-tasting dinner. Amber gold with a white head. Lightly toasty caramel, a weak nuttiness. OK.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Though the "Erik the Red" title is the same as many Rock Bottom renditions, this one’s a Vienna and a Lager, so it should be filed apart from the Erik the Red Ale listing. Nevertheless...
Transparent amber orange with a pond-like sheaf of fog misting over the top. Honey, biscuits and copper impart a cleanly lager edge while mildly roasted almonds and extra light cocoa powder superfluously present the rear. Flavor profile hits a line of searing acidity but doesn’t totally keel over the beer’s natural progression. Diluted brown sugar, bad botched molasses sugar cookies and copper controlled nut packages steer the viking’s course. Brown bread underbelly is injected with a dark ginger and beet sugar skew. Fresh, but overly compensated with caravienne. Steel reserves and aluminum numb the otherwise sweet and borderline syrupy brown sugar caramelized glaze.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Airport location. Transparent, sun-blasted red. Crystal malt aroma. Biscuity with mild honeycomb and general blandness. Bitterness of an empty character, tired and musty bread malts, flighty candy sweetness. Smooth, medium-bodied palate with no resonance in the mouth. An inoffensive sum of parts wholly insufficient on their own.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Brewpub draft. Clear amber pour, small off white head. Beer is muted- everything in light doses: toast, caramel, dark fruit, graininess. Light body, just smoother than balanced. Nothing exciting.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Erik pours a clear copper red with better than an inch of cream colored foam. Very nice spidery lacing throughout the glass. Mild malty aroma with a bit of citrus fruit or hop.
Smooth and tasty malt - with some toasted biscuit and a little caramel followed by a brief herbal hop bite right at the end. Some hop bitterness lingers for a half a minute or so in the aftertaste. I don’t find the citrus fruit or citrus hop character that the aroma suggested anywhere else in the beer. Plentiful carbonation and nearly-medium body give this beer a nice mouthfeel and finish.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On draft at Minneapolis airport. A deep amber color with a good nose of caramel malts and just a touch of hops. A really good balanced flavor. I got some of the flowery hop flavor, but not much of the bitterness. Has an average palate for the style.
