Fobab VI. To me, this is not the right style for a barrel. Tripels are tasty, one of my favorite styles, but the oak in this one kind of bummed me out. It’s not a bad beer, but just wasn’t big on the woody aroma mixing with my tripel fruits and bread. The base beer is probably very good. This one had some apricot and biscuits in it, pretty dry for barrel aged. Nice enough, but not my cup of tea.

deep ruby color, no head, some bubbles around the rim. perfumy aroma, with alcohol, fruit and wood notes. a trace of dried fruit in the flavor, with lots of tasty barrel flavor which fills the mouth with alcohol fullness. oily palate, alcoholy finish. very tasty. very enjoyable.

Nice job, Iain!
Unfortunately, Mr. Wilson, brewmaster, wasn’t on hand at the brewpub when I tried this or I would’ve shaken his hand on this one. It poured a hazy brown body (the original was amber) with a bubbly tan head that vanished quickly. The aroma was like sherry with some drops of Bourbon, cherries, and alcohol. Smooth and slightly hot on the tongue, the ABV perhaps being a tad higher than the 9% that I’ve recorded. The flavor had the addition of vanilla, a woody bitterness, dark stone fruits, dark caramel, and more alcohol. Delicious!
