Sampled with many other offerings at the brewpub bar for a long lunch last week. Poured a black/brown, with a modest but lasting amount of tan head foam, and waves & spots of lacing. The aroma was roasted malt, coffee, and light smoke. The flavor continued the light smoke with a little woodiness, an even hop bitterness, and a finishing dryness, in a medium, but not necessarily full body. Flavorful nonetheless.

Draft on tap at the brewpub (Orland Park, IL). Pours a near pitchblack opaque pour, dark with a small frothy film of a head, light chocolate milk brown, laces small. Aromas are roasty malts and a kick of rye grains, touch of cocoa, roasty malts, coffee grounds, heavier rye really makes an impression. Initial is thicker end of medium, with rich roasty malts, barley, a kick of mellow and slightly spicy rye grains, cocoa and dark chocolate, smooth silky malts, a touch of vanilla, coffee grounds. Sweet toffee and caramel, irish soda bread. Almost feels like a significant bodied stout, with dry stout tendencies, roasty and dry finish with some silky sweet cocoa and toffee sticking through. A winner from the more quaffable and "sessionable" stout series by Iain. Nice.

Cornfield (5276) - Oak Forest, Illinois, USA - AUG 24, 2010
On tap at the brewpub: This poured an intensely dark brown body with a full tan head. The aroma was richly roasted malt with a hint of dark rye bread. Creamy and medium-bodied, it delivered dark malt, well roasted, with a peppery spiciness from the rye and an earthy, nutty bitterness. Dry finish. Very tasty brew.
