A subsequent brewing brought this in at 4.4%. It poured an opaque black/brown body with a sustained head. The aroma was indeed oaty, roasty, and chocolatey. The flavor had the additons of a light touch of licorice and a lighter tough of toffee. The finish was dry and roasty. A traditional Scottish recipe? Nice.

Sampler on tap at the brewpub (Orland Park, IL). Pours a near pitchblack hue, the edges are clearly brown or reddish, lightening the beer up a bit, still very dark but I wouldnít say opaque. A big frothy lighter brown head sits atop, stays moderate sized, and laces pretty good. Aromas are roast and toast, sweeter oatmeal, some toffee, creamy malt body of oatmeal, some coffee. Initial is medium bodied, maybe a touch heavier with a good healthy roast, toast, some coffee, touch of mocha, dry Irish like qualities with some soda bread, decent eroast grows but smooths out. Pretty nice, I might grab a touch of anise. Into the end,dry, roasty, light sweetness and the anise is light and compliments well, but is definitely there. Finish is a bit more cleaned up, with some sweeter oatmeal, cocoa, lingering anise, dry roast, and bread. Interesting.

Draft, pours black with foam tan head. Nose has lots of dark chocolate, coffee roast, and cream. Flavors are very smooth, chocolately and roasty. Medium bodied. A really solid stout and this isnít a style Iím that into and itísimpressive
