On tap at the brewpub some time back... almost caught up on my ratings. This poured nearly black in the mug, highlighted with reddish hues, and capped with a sturdy tan head. The aroma was roasted coffee and barley with a splash of chocolate. The flavor had the addition of hints of vanilla, a mild fruitiness, and cocoa rather than milk chocolate. The finish was roasty and dry. Nice.

draft... finally something that was decent... nice dark brown almost black with a thick tan head, great lace... some really nice roast on the front of this but then it starts to get a tad generic... tastes good, lots going on, cocoa, vanilla, roast, a nice dry finish... enjoyable

Mug club draft on tap at the brewpub (Orland Park, IL). Pours a near pitchblack hue, near opaque with a good ruby bottom. Frothy brownish head films at a decent layer, laces ok. Stays ok sized. Aromas are roast, toast, cocoa, rye, toffee, more toast, biscuits, some dryness. Touches of coffee roast grow. Initial is medium bodied, perhaps a touch more fullness with coffee, roast, and toast lingering up front. Middle throws more cocoa, dry and sweet mesh, with toffee, biscuits, toast, more roast lingers on. Into the finish a mellow silky beer offers some more roast and toast, some touches of grainy spicy rye. Really nice lingering coffee and cocoa on the backend with just enough thickness to make it memorable, some really dry hints into the finish. A very nice rye stout, offering some decent layers of flavor, a good drinkability and flavor. Just works very well. Flavors don’t jump put necessarily, but this beer is very nice for a stout.
