COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is the bourbon barrel version of Richard’s first brew here. Aged for 4 months in a bourbon barrel, this Coffee Stout has Coffee, Bourbon, and roasted malt flavors all blending together to produce a complex and robust flavor.

On tap at Rock Fest ’08. After having Clare’s Thirsty, this one just wasn’t right. Didn’t care much for it. Some coffe, toffee and chocolate taste, but not well balanced. Just o.k.

on tap at Rock Fest ’08. listed at 6% and i didn’t even notice it was barrel aged. the coffee notes seemed very artifical and syrupy to me. syrupy chocolate as well. watery body. i wasn’t into this.

dark brown color, brown bubbles around rim. aroma of coffee, toffee and paste. flavor is smooth toffee, bitter coffee (evidently a great combination). creammy finish. enjoyable, creamy, not-too-sweet.

The original beer seems a bit lightweight for Bourbon barrel aging, but the end result was pretty satisfying. There’s a sturdy Bourbon presence, to be sure, but it never overwhelms. Dark brown, near black, in body with a short-lived tan head, the Bourbon hits the nose first and is followed quickly by scents of roasted barley and coffee. Oddly, the combination of Bourbon and sweet roasted malt somehow adds a dark fruitiness to the flavor. The finish is sweet and mildly boozey. Nice.
