COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Home Opener brewed at Rock Bottom Brewery by Steve Panos (Rock Bottom), David Cerminara (Penn), Shawn Setzenfand (Hofbrau), and Steve Crist (Penn) is a nod to the pale top-fermented ales of Cologne, Germany with an American twist. The brainchild of Cerminara, a self-professed “Kölsch Geek”, the Home Opener was brewed using traditional techniques but substituting noble hops with flavorful and aromatic US hop varieties such as Simcoe, Amarillo, and Centennial. The result is a soft, delicate, almost fruity sweetness balanced by a moderate hoppy bitterness that embodies one of the world’s most refreshing and quenching beer styles. Look forward to a little slice of Germany’s famous biergartens right here in the Steel City, courtesy of the Home Opener Ale.

Slightly fruity and hoppy aroma. Very light pour and a extra fizzy mouth feel. Very little flavor.

Piss me off, only three contrived beers for RBPGH Craft beer Week 2012? On tap at the bocktown monaca, such a friendly place with the nicest of personell. Looks like pale lager. Nice head tho. Smells like any other good fresh pale lager. First taste is mild and refershing. Goes down really easy, I like this stuff. Like-able and well mannerred but has enough hops to let you know it is not simpley some other BMC! Nice lacing baby.

On tap at the Dive Bar. Light yellow lemon color, slightly hazy, a bitacidic but certainly refreshing and some light fruit notes.

A pale yellow, white cover. Aroma is light grain, subtle fruit notes, pear/apple skin, etc. Taste is the same, this is a simple style, well executed beer with enough interesting nuance to keep you coming back.
