A nice, cascading pattern leads to a creamy, dense, pale head that sits on top of a hazy, orange-amber colored beer. It has a nice spicy aroma that is a bit earthy, with some herbal notes as well as aromatic notes of coriander, phenolic clove, and a woody pepper note.
The beer is not really sweet tasting, but not bone dry either and there is a touch of tartness to the beer that finishes things off. There is a lightly astringent, muted bitterness in the finish as well. This is very smooth feeling when served from the cask and has a nice creamy texture. There is a spicy, earthy flavor here that is a mix of light coriander, woody pepper and smooth clove notes. Fruity flavors are also here, though secondary to the spicy notes, and provide flavors of pear and apple. This is definitely a decent Saison and the cask serving method is most definitely an interesting a worthy try. hellbilly (1577), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 8, 2008 on cask at papago... pours hazy near cloudy a stained maple wood brown color with a soft long lasting white head and plenty o’ lacing. very floral aroma with lots of yeast and notes of oranges, spice and a grassiness which reminds me of being in a open field. the flavor is a yeasty mix of the aroma with a spicy dry finish and astringency from the yeast. it’s a bit sweet on the palate but there’s so much else going on that it is well worth the sugar intake. full yeasty body. great cask texture makes it the smoothest richest saison i’ve had. it gets quite warming and comfortable in the belly
