Reviewed from notes. On tap at the Rock Bottom in Bethesda, MD. Pours black with a bit of a mocha head. Maybe two fingers, although that recedes fairly quickly into nothing much. Hints of lacing. The nose is mostly roasted malt with some vague notions of light hops as well as some coffee. Taste is fairly light in flavor with some roasted malt. Decent body with good carbonation. A nice lighter flavor without much standing out. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 10-24-2010

On draught at the downtown Milwaukee brewpub. Pours an opaque dark brown colored brew with a creamy tan head with excellent retention and lacing. Aroma of toasted dark malt, a hint of chocolate floral hops and a hint of vanilla. Taste is pretty close to the aroma character with a touch of butterscotch. Finish is semi-sweet with some butterscotch, vanilla and toasted dark malt aftertaste.

Draught at the Campbell location @4.4%abv. Served on nitro, but why wouldn’t it be, right? Black with a lasting tan head. Fresh roasted barley, toasted bread, and milky chocolate aroma. The flavor is pretty balanced and smooth with a gentle bitterness but not much sweetness either. Roasted malt flavors of lightly burnt toast. Bready and a touch ashy. Light bodied but with a creamy texture that stands up to the roast. Solid stout and very drinkable.

Black pour with a thin white head. Roasty aroma with hints of coffee. Light and easy to drink bitter roast flavor. Hints of licorice. Some sweetness.

Location: I venture into the Rock Bottom Bethesda every now and again because it is so close, this is one of their standard offerings, and I’ve had it a few times on tap

Overall Impression: Probably one of the more boring Stouts out there, it’s thin and boring, not terrible, just dull.

On tap at Bethesda location. Black in color with a tan nitro head. Roasty aroma. Flavor is roasted malt and coffee. Dry on the palate and a little lighter than I’d like.

From draught sample at Bethesda. Light chocolate and roasted malt, a bit of coffee and some lactose character. Dry stout tang. Dark brown-black clear with thin tan head. Medium body with smooth nitro carbonation. Starts dry with light roasted malt, a bit of chocolate, and some licorice. Carbonic acidity and a light hop bitter finish. Fairly smooth after with nutty character.
