COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This medium-bodied, dry Irish Stout is dispensed with nitrogen, for a full, roasted malt flavor. Editor's Note: This is one of Rock Bottom's standard brews and is available at many locations.

(Nitro draft: Rock Bottom in Campbell, CA) [NOTE: In San Jose, Stillwater Stout in an oatmeal stout, not an Irish stout] The nose is lighter than expected, with dark roasted and oatmeal aromas, but neither are all that abundant; The moderately bitter flavor features a much more prominent dark roasted maltiness than the nose indicates, and a fairly strong oatmeal component; The palate is medium bodied, perhaps a little thin for the style, but has a somewhat creamy and smooth mouthfeel; Black in color, even at the edges; Creamy, dark tan head has excellent retention and coats the glass with lacing

(Milwaukee) Very dark brown with a thick, frothy brown head a la nitrogen. Roasted coffee aroma that carried over to the taste. Another very dry beer I had from this brewery. Quite bitter that detracted from the quaffability.

UPDATED: MAR 6, 2006 Had this one on tap at the Bethesda MD franchise. Not bad for McBrewpub fare. Dark, roasted, and smooth as a decent stout should be. Maybe on the sweet side, but definitely not a sweet stout. Could have a little stronger malt body. UPDATE 3/6/6: Tried this again at the Bethesda location. It still ain’t much. I detected a faint milky aroma, but the stout was mild, watery and uninventive. An even bigger disappointment.

A nice deep stout. I really need to get back to this bar and do some serious rating on their beers, as all I h ad there were good.

Minneapolis. Typical black color. Coffee, chocolate, and roast aromas. Ditto for the taste. A little sweetness to the taste. A bit watery, but still quite good.

(Bethesda) Clear red-black body with creamy beige head, leaves nice lacing. Aroma is inviting -- milk chocolate, sweet, some roasty. Taste is medium sweet, roasty chocolate. Watery light-medium body.

(Milwaukee) Nice, deep brown body, a typical nitrous pour. roastey and fresh. smooth, well roasted, but not too substantial. a bit weak and watery, balance and depth lack substantially

Nitro'd creaminess and chemical taste that comes along with it. Roasty and bitter, but there' s something taken away by Nitro forcing it!

Milwaukee: Dark reflective black color with a thin brown nitro head. Mild malty aroma. Body is semi-sweet and finishes a little too bitter. Thin, off-balanced and just not quite all-together. I'm really not a big fan of brewpub chain beers.

Would be an excellent Scottish Ale--why is it that I (and others it appears) are finding sweetness in this? Undertones of coffee. Long finish. Lovely. (at Minneapolis location)
