This medium-bodied, dry Irish Stout is dispensed with nitrogen, for a full, roasted malt flavor. Editor's Note: This is one of Rock Bottom's standard brews and is available at many locations.

At Bethesda location. A dark brown beer with a red shine underneath a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet with light notes of roasted malt and chocolate. The flavor is sweet malty and rather roasted combined with medium strength notes of chocolate and lesser notes of nuts. Nice.

Tap at Bethesda. Pours opaque with a large, creamy beige head, long retention with excellent lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (roast, coffee, chocolate), no hops, and light esters (fruity) with notes of leather, smoke, and peat. Flavor is heavy malt (roast, coffee, chocolate), no hops, and light esters (fruity) with notes of leather, smoke, and peat. Light body, low warmth, medium carbonation, and a dry finish.

Nitro... Bethesda location... Pitch black ale with a mid-sized, creamy, off-white head. Terrific retention. The nose is all cocoa, vanilla and smoke. The flavor is perfectly balanced with toasted malts, bitter cocoa and charcoal... numbs the tongue. Light bodied and very astringent with pillow-soft carbonation. Roasted, bone-dry finish.

On tap at the Milwaukee Location. Poured a dark black with red tints at the edges and a small sized off white head. Aromas and tastes of chocolate, light coffee, and roasted malts. Weaker body for a stout.

Nitro at the Bethesda location. Pour is a clear, deep ruby to deep cola red with a medium nitro brown head. Small lace. Aroma is smoke, ash, cherries, relatively muted. Taste milk chocolate, bitter, ashy, tobacco. Watery palate. Inoffensive.

Nitro at the Bethesda location. Creamy light tan head, typical nitro stout appearance. Nose of light roast and cream, some egg and light char scents as well. Simple toast and milk flavors, typical Guinness clone recipe, but drinkable. Finishes thin and a just slightly dry/husky.

On tap (sampler) at the Bethesda location, July 2006. Vary dark colour - almost black and nearly opaque, with a thin beige head. Lots of chocolate in the aroma. More creamy chocolate in the flavour, with developing coffee notes and a dry, roasty malt backbone. Mouthfeel is on the light side but, overall, I thought it was a tasty and enjoyable brew.

Milwaukee: Dark reflective black color with a thin brown nitro head. Mild malty aroma. Body is semi-sweet and finishes a little too bitter. Thin, off-balanced and just not quite all-together. I'm really not a big fan of brewpub chain beers.
