BBB63 (3681), La Porte, Indiana, USA Apr 27, 2008 Growler at the pre-DLD party at Flossmoor, thanks bwkrieger: Hazy reddish amber hue with a small head and okay lace. The aroma has notes of grain, caramel, flowery and herbal hops, earthy spicy yeast esters and a hint of butterscotch. The taste has a nice acidic fruity twang over a layer of sweet and biscuity malt, slight walnut, spice and herbs upon the finish. The mouth feel is sprite yet soft and refreshing. A really nice brew, I liked this.
holdenn (1103), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 10, 2008 On tap at Yorktown. Served in a chalice a cloudy brown amber with a thin creamy off white head. Sweet aromas of plums and brown sugar with a touch of yeast and alcohol coming through. Lively carbonation. Roses and brown sugar malts in the front with an approaching spice, grass, and herbal hop. Finishes bitter with drying herbal hops. I really enjoyed this one. FlssmrBrewAlum (168), South Chicago Suburbs, Illinois, USA Jul 3, 2008 Poured on tap at Yorktown. Pours a hazy deep nut brown with smalle but pretty offwhite head. Initial taste a bit boozy and strong. Deep dark malts take over with a bit of a belgian spiciness. Still, I feel the malts pervade. Chocolate, vanilla, caramel (Like a sundae) notes linger on the tounge as the backend takes a a still strong taste. An interesting brew, but either too strong in the malt or not balanced properly. Decent, but mainly for its impressive flavors. SQNfan (388), Wheaton, Illinois, USA Jun 11, 2008 On tap at the brewpub: Deep amber in color with aromas of spicy red fruit, caramel, herbs and hazelnut. The palate seemed to show off some hops especially in the dry finish. Ughsmash (2835), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA May 28, 2008 On tap at RB – Yorktown. Poured deep caramelly-brown with a shorter cap of deeper off-white head. The aroma picked up deeper fruity notes with clove spicage.. sweet overall feel with a dry, grainy undertone.. dry, mulled candi sugar gave the final impression. The flavor had sweeter candi sugar and plums with caramel and more fruit at the core.. light chocolate and aged caramel toward the back with sharp, spicy, peppery alcohol at the finish.. solid. Medium-plus bodied with heavier carbonation and sharp notes at the back.. OK balance.. meh. kseecs16 (472), Westmont, Illinois, USA May 12, 2008 Cask at the pub. Scent is alcohol, chocolate, bready. Appears dark brown with thing off-white head, reddish hues. Complex flavor, chocolate, dark fruit with a dry malty bitterness. Smooth creamy cask palate really lends itself to this brew.
