Amber hued brown poured from the tap at Saza's in Montgomery. Very much like your standard English brown ale with the curious addition of almonds.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap @ Rocket Republic. Dark amber colored beer with khaki foam. Not quite as dark as I normally expect for a brown ale. Bready malts, toast, and a definite nutty quality. Kind of an acidic finish to it. Some coffee ground bitterness and a touch of sweet dark fruits. Kind of just sweet (and slightly acidic), but not a whole lot of depth.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Draft. Poured a slightly hazy amber-brown with a very thin tan head. Aroma was chock full ’o nuts. Hard to tell where the nut infusion stopped and the maltiness began. I’m always skeptical about added things like nuts and coffee, since the proper use of malts can produce those flavors organically. This was rich and warm but really over the top nutty. Could have used some more hops (particularly some spicy or earthy ones) for balance. Flavor was more balanced and malt forward. Seemed a bit undercarbonated. Nice first beer from Rocket Republic. Curious to see what else they do.

UPDATED: APR 18, 2015 This is a very good nut brown. The almond addition seems to add to body and aroma. Nice balance with hop and sweetness. For my first rocket republic brew I’m impressed. However no head and clarity is not good. But I’ll take taste over these elements any day. Good job! Update. Clarity improved.
